Agreed, it would be better for the sport if the commission was a neutral player that operated to make things equal, protect fighters, and give the sport credibility

But its like the commissioners in major sports-they ain't about fairness, they are about making the owners more paper.

the sport was built on the "A" side having the power to dictate certain things, its always been this way, funny thing is people laugh at fighters wanting advantages when pretty everybody in life wants advantages to fit their situations.

Couldn't agree more, the two men meeting inside the ring should be on an even playing field, that one is a bigger draw than the other should only be a factor outside the ring.

No. All boxers should be allowed to fight with any legal boxing glove they choose. No boxer should be allowed to tell the other boxer what type of gloves he must use.

It's as gay as calling fighters A sides and B sides.

If fighters sign contracts agreeing to these things then they only have themselves to blame. I don't think it's an honourable tactic however. So long as the glove is legal according to the commission they're fighting under then I see no problem with fighters choosing whatsoever they damn well please.

Nah there should be some rule in effect at the commissions that if a glove is on an approved list, it's good to go. Period. They shouldn't let one guys sponsorship deals dictate what both fighters wear.

Ok I'm new here, the only reason I really went for an account is because I like to read the comments but don't like all of the ads. So I just signed up for an account, without really having the intention to ever post too often.

But on this topic I feel the need to actually post.

The whole idea that a boxer can dictate what gloves the other man can wear is utterly ridiculous to me. The idea that seemingly intelligent people who love the sport, also defend this activity, is even more baffling to me.

As far as purse splits especially, locations, and other perks that don't have to do with the actual fight, I am all for the "A" side getting advantages. If they are drawing the money, they deserve more of it.

However when you are talking about forcing your opponent to wear gloves he is not comfortable with it is just beyond the realm of ridiculousness. When the NFL found out about New England and the balls, they (tried to anyway) suspended Brady and inflicted tighter controls. They didn't allow Brady to continue to use deflated balls because he is the NFL's "A" side (which he is the NFL's cash cow).

They don't let Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo use special footballs for they penalty or free kicks, they kick the same ball as everybody else does. Barry Bonds hit the same baseballs as everybody else did. Only in boxing would this whole idea even be entertained as "normal" behavior.
