James DeGale is relishing the pressure of world champion status ahead of his first defence against Lucian Bute this weekend.

The IBF super-middleweight champion travels to Bute's back yard of Quebec City in a fight that will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the early hours of Sunday, and the Briton is expected by many to make another bold statement to the rest of the division.

DeGale told Sky Sports: "I'm feeling real good. I got here last Wednesday and have done my last couple of hard sessions so it's just about making weight and getting ready for Saturday.

Degale is really confident.. may be even too much confident? I follow Bute since a lot of years and I can say this : I never see him with that much fire in his eye. I personnally think that Degale underestimate him. That's fine. I'll be at the fight and I'll be more than happy to celebrate Bute's victory. Keep looking over him James, Lucian won't make the same mistake he did with Froch. Maybe you'll learn the same way Bute did

Degale ought to be careful downplaying Bute

For as much hate as Bute gets, when he's on, he has a tricky style that's difficult for any fighter to get around. DeGale may get surprised.

If Bute is dialed in, he could whoop on DeGeale. It all depends how focused he is but his punches are straighter. DeGeale swings a little bit wider and has more power.
