Comments Thread For: Ronny Rios Targets WBC Featherweight Title in 2016

Mandalay Bay Events Center, Las Vegas, Nevada - Ronny Rios (25-1) picked up the biggest win of his career when he handed Jayson Velez (23-1-1) his first lost on Saturday night on the Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez pay-per-view undercard.

Rios had been out of the ring since March and felt the layoff contributed to his slow start.

    Solid Victory

Good showing by Rios vs Velez. He's a solid contender.

He was a high profile prospect before he got upset by Robinson Castellanos. Not sure what happened in that fight. He probably thought Robinson was going to be an easy W instead he got knocked out and upset.

This was a solid win on his road to contention. He's with Golden Boy so he should be able to get another solid opponent next. Target a fight with Gradovich next. Then get a rematch with Castellanos.

Right now the major players in his division are fighting on PBC so I'm not sure he will get a title shot anytime soon. But continue building his resume and eventually he will get a mandatory shot hopefully.

Definitely Ronny Rios is back on track.

What happened was that he got pummeled. It was a very lop-sided fight and he had a hard time dealing with Castellanos' pressure. Tbf, Castellanos' record is deceiving. He started off bad he's won like 12 of his last 13 fights. He's a pressure fighter with heavy hands.

The great thing about Rios is he did not let a loss do him in emotionally and got back up and now he has the win over Velez. One step back and now two steps forward.
