  • I was rooting for Cotto hard (bet on him as well...even though I dislike him atm but the PRican fire in me came out with this rivalry.. went nuts in the 8th when Cotto attacked, called Canelo every derogative term in the world lol) but when the fight ended, I knew Canelo had edged it, he just looked like the more solid/superior fighter. I had Canelo win by 8-4 or so. I may have to watch the fight again but live it just felt like Cotto couldn't do much against a bigger guy (the size difference was more noticeable than I had expected for real).

I think Cotto had the wrong plan, I thought he needed to establish his jab more and push Canelo back from the opening bell. He gave Canelo control of the fight and let him be in control going forward too much. Boxing is not Cotto's forte, he looked weak doing it.

The whole time though I was like, damn, Gennady beats both of these bums on the same night. XDD

Yeah, it was wrong. Cotto should have took command from the opening bell, but he decided to retreat, let Canelo build confidence and by the time he tried to exchange, Canelo had lost all fear/nervousness and felt in control.

Nobody said they disagreed with Lamazon, not only that, everybody specially Chavez Sr. was criticizing Canelo very harshly, all fight long, saying he was getting outclassed, out-boxed because he just didn't want to let his hands go.

Chavez said tons of times "Canelo wants to win the fight with a single punch, he needs to throw more than one punch every time, he will not win fighting this way". Barrera was also saying similar things about Canelo not letting his hands go and being outclassed every single round except the 8th and the last one.

IDK if after the TV Azteca transmission, they all got heavily reprimanded and changed their versions AFTER the scores were announced and for other media outlets as well, also after the outcome. But I swear that, during the whole fight and JUST BEFORE the scorecard results were made public, all these guys were claiming out loud that Cotto was winning the fight by a large margin, agreeing with that Lamazon guy. And BTW, I did watch the fight previously on a non-Mexican broadcast and I still didn't see Canelo win --IDK, maybe I am just bad at appreciating boxing or I need a much better TV screen because if it is true that Canelo actually landed more than Cotto, then the latter really put a number on me and totally fooled me making me feel like he was the master of the ring all night, by making Canelo look so slow (foot-wise), flat-footed, static and clumsy, when in fact he actually was not.

And it seems he fooled all TV Azteca commentators as well, OR they have an agenda against Canelo, which totally blows my mind. I don't have any agenda against him, I am just totally frustrated that he couldn't knock Cotto out with such an evident size and power advantage, just because he has HUGE stamina issues that seem to be getting worse and worse for him the older and bigger he gets. I am actually glad Canelo won, but I am honestly embarrassed by the way he did it because he could have done much better and yet he didn't.

Chavez never said that. Neveeeer, and Carlos Aguilar said Canelo won. Rodolfo Vargas too.

Lamazon is the only idiot on the world that said Cotto won 117-111.

Canelo outboxed Cotto, he did a very good work.

The only round cotto was hurt was in the 12 with a body blow.
I just watched it with no sound.

I stand corrected. 10-9 Canelo, not 10-8, Cotto wasn't as hurt as I thought he was.

I will proceed to download the whole fight's video and watch every single round carefully, trying to count ONLY the connected shots from each boxer.

This time I will analyze in a cold, emotion-less manner, just count blows connected each round.

I may have written a lot of bull%$! in my last few comments on here.

Yet, I am still very disappointed that Canelo could never ever stop Cotto from jumping on his toes, away from him, again, because Canelo never seems to have enough conditioning to keep up with well-conditioned defensive fighters. Honestly, he looked almost as slow as Margarito, only way more accurate and powerful, when he did hit his target.

Some of it dates to years of people comparing canelo to his son and saying he was better then his son. So he is biased as all of hell. Every other major media outlets had canelo winning. And look at the narrate after the fight everyone asking and wants canelo to fight GGG not cotto again. If the fight were close it was lock for a rematch the fans would be demanding it. But canelo won comfortably he's on to bigger and better things. Fans want canelo to fight GGG. Cotto needs to go back to 154 and rebound from the loss or retire. If he fights canelo again what different strategy can he use? He couldn't outbox him and if he slugs with him he will be put to sleep. He'll be older next year and his chances of winning will decrease.
Totally agree. The TV Azteca opinion does not mean nothing for all the problems they had with Canelo. Simply they have a great lack of objectivity .

                • I had the fight a draw!! canelo won his rounds by a wider margin then cotto won his rounds. but I expected this canelo is the cash cow for hbo they weren't
going to let him lose!! this is the same kid who got a draw against mayweather!! cotto did the right thing by walking away because either way he gets ripped. the same scores for trout and mayweather **** it retire and enjoy your money. funny how people say cotto got rocked and his face looks like crap, but you guys need to realize canelo is a strong puncher because of his size, but guys like magarito and pac man are sharper harder puncher if you look at cottos face after there fights big difference.

Canelo is a bóxer, he is a counterpuncher . He is not a knockout artist.

He did a very good work.

                    Canelo won 116-111.
