If you want to be champion you need to clearly beat the champion. Murray didn't do it.

I was actually rooting for Murray in this fight. I thought he fought admirably against Golovkin and had a lot of success against Sturm and Martinez. Unfortunately, being on foreign soil, he got the short end of the stick.
With a presumed bias in Murray's favor going into watching the fight, I still couldn't give him enough rounds to win, with or without the point deduction. There just were too many lulls in his work. He ended up landing about the same amount of punches as Abraham who is undoubtedly the stronger puncher and the champ. You have to beat the champ and Murray only did enough to go the distance, not win a decision. I actually thought Paul Smith was more deserving of getting a close decision victory in his first attempt at Abraham. Murray's effort was disappointing and his response to the judges scorecards is perplexing. Like a lot of boxing fans, I tend to view the judging in title fights that take place in Germany with a fair amount of skepticism but this was one instance where they actually got it right.
