  • Comments Thread For: Martin Murray Gutted, Felt Confident He'd Get Decision

Martin Murray admits he is now at a crossroads in his boxing career after his latest shot at a world title ended in a split-decision loss to Arthur Abraham in Germany.

Murray pushed the Armenia-born German all the way but scores of 115-112, 112-115 and 116-111 saw him come away from the bout in Hanover empty-handed.

"Obviously I'm gutted," Murray told Sky Sports after the loss.

Its not hard to understand Murray's frustration. Coming up empty for the fourth time in world title shots.

Still he should keep his head up high.

1: He put up a fine performance against the no.1 SMW in his homecountry.
2: He Showed that he has something left after the GGG trashing
3: He showed that he can take the power at 168 and that he himself was able to hurt the iron chinned Abraham.

Then again its hard to see where he goes from here. Maybe he can have a couple of so-so fights and then challenge DeGale.

Fight went exactly how I expected. Two pretty average fighters competing virtually on level terms.

I don't know how Murray could have been confident of getting a decision with the way the fight went.

Martin Murray clearly won the fight. 8-4.

He also beat Sergio 7-5 with two knockdowns.

Yeah he definitely beat Martinez. That was a travesty. I think they didn't count a clear Knock down in that fight. Also, that fight was in Martinez back yard. I didn't watch this fight last night but I do know Martinez is a good fighter. He is a solid B fighter and is good work for anyone other than a couple elite fighters. Hope he fights on

Murray didn't deserve the decision, he needed to have done more if he wanted the win.

Close fight. Not really bothered either way, but felt like Murray was slightly busier throughout the rounds.

murray is a good solid fighter and he's right up there with abraham who's also a good solid fighter but as time goes by murray's robbery loss against martinez just shows how done martinez was. murray's not a guy that will do anything special and yet he pretty clearly beat martinez on my card with 2 knockdowns.

this also makes cotto's recent run look really mediocre. since moving up from 147 cotto really hasn't done anything respectable. crippled martinez, drained geale, yuri foreman? crippled margarito, and now clearly losing against canelo who is a a capable but far from special boxer. this shows you how a fighter can get by with smoke and mirrors and extend his career by 6 years if he has the right matchmaking.

unfortunately now that canelo has the wbc we have to see the same thing cotto was just doing all over again and we will comically see how a guy who weights 175 on fight night is too small to fight a guy who weights 169 pounds on fight night.

They even brought American judges, one of them, who clearly favored Murray and yet they are still crying over decision. It wasn't robbery, Murray won 4 rounds and that was it! American judges would never give the edge to a German/Armenian fighter. Especially fighting against a Brit!

This also makes Golovkin's run look really mediocre. Martin Murray is the best win on his resume.
