But after the fight he impresses me with how quickly he's able to learn and incorporate new ****. The rate at which he's improving as a fighter is nuts

I've never seen Canelo look better, it's like he wasn't as tight against Cotto, his all around speed also looked noticeably better. I've always given Canelo a very good chance to beat Golovkin, don't think that'll ever change.

I was impressed too but let's not get carried away here, he won a close fight that he was favored to win, Canelo showed something special but Cotto is not GGG especially at this stage of his career. I'd still have GGG as a clear favorite against Canelo if they fought at 160, at 155-156, i'd still have him as a slight favorite to beat Canelo.

GGG is an aggressive counter puncher with power and good sense of timing, he's not gonna come to Canelo like Cotto was trying to to get his offense off, the best chance Canelo has is to back up GGG which won't be easy since Canelo is more confortable counterpunching and he lacks size and reach against GGG.
The size, strength and power advantages can be the deciding factors in such a fight where the difference in skills is not so big.

While he's no king of infight adjustments his boxing brain is great. He learns techniques between fights and is able to apply them quickly

Yeah Canelo has more experience on that level than GGG even though he's much younger, he was cool and relaxed against Cotto and fought a smart displined fight, a part of that however is that he gauaged up Cotto early and saw that he can deal with what Cotto was trying to do which is the get in and out and move side to side while unloading combinations, Canelo timed him and countered him beautifully, which is where Canelo is most comfortable at, GGG doesn't fight like that and his power can disrupt Canelo's train of thought.

The mental part of the game is of course important but I don't see Canelo being able to box and move perfectly for 6-7 rounds or to back up GGG for 6-7 rounds to win the fight unless it's at a catchweight, Cotto is great but he's naturally a 147 pounder, GGG is a natural 160 pounder and once his punches land on Canelo the fight will be different.

As a Mexican, I hate to see anyone, disrespect a guy who fought a bigger guy. Forget being Mexican. Cotto was expected to be blown out, but wasn't. The torch was kinda passed, but Cotto is not half empty, Cotto is mostly full.

True boxing fans get this. Look at the respect two men, from two amazing boxing traditions greeted each other after the fight.
