  • Comments Thread For: Cotto vs. Canelo is Finally Here - Do Not Blink

By Francisco Salazar - LAS VEGAS, Nev. - It is finally here.

    November 21, 2015.

The day Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez will step inside the ring to face Miguel Cotto in a 12 round bout at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. Yeah, no need to pinch yourself anymore.

Many questions will indeed be answered after 12 rounds (or less) of action between the two fighters. However, a microscope will likely be more on Alvarez than Cotto.

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez could become a bonafide great Mexican fighter with a win tonight. Or he regroups the same way he had to regroup after his loss to Floyd Mayweather should Cotto come out victorious.

If Alvarez is feeling the pressure of a big fight, he sure isn't showing it. Why would he? Well, he has been a pro for 10 years now, when he made his pro debut at the age of 15. Alvarez was facing fighters over twice his age then, yet had to persevere and be victorious.

Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) has more to gain than he has to lose. He is only 25 years of age and still has a lot of years left in the sport.

Cotto? Well, not so much. It would be interesting to see how much the Puerto Rican star has left, especially if boxing fans believe his recent win-streak is more of a mirage because of the opponents he has faced. [Click Here To Read More]

Going to be a good day. Early tailgate, AZ vs AZ St. football game in the afternoon, then back to my place for BBQ and Cotto/Canelo. Can't wait!

What a crock of s...t! This looks like a press release written by Golden Boy. It is pure BS. If Alvarez wins, it will not make him a bonafide Mexican great. He will simply be a guy who was good enough to beat a former great who is past his prime (which Alvarez couldn't do against Mayweather, but did against Mosley). If Alvarez loses (especially if he loses by KO, which is what I predict), he will prove that he is overrated because he couldn't beat a past his prime former great fighter.

Alvarez didnt' fight his best fights against Lara and Trout because Alvarez is mediocre fighter. If anybody's win streak is a mirage, it is Alvarez.

I agree that winning this fight wouldn’t make Alvarez great (he would be one step closer though) but I wouldn’t call him mediocre with wins against fighters like Trout and Lara.

I mean by your standards Cotto isn’t a great fighter either but yet you call him one…

Good fight, probably a Canelo win on points, not ruling out tko but can't underestimate Cotto. Both have a chance to win, depends who executes game plan better.

In other words, Canelo gets no credit whatever the outcome lol dude, get over him already.

Every time i hear Canelo wasnt at his best against Trout i credit that to DKSAB.

This is a good fight because both guys have the tools to beat the other guy. Nobody knows for sure what's going to happen, it could go either way.

I agree, this fight is truly meaningless. Anyone who knows boxing knows Canelo and Cotto a gonna be paper bought and paid for champs.

The winner of this fight proves only one thing, that they have no business calling themselves MW champ.

Either way, GGG will be holding that WBC title soon. The real question is if he even has to put on gloves to obtain it.

Not if Cotto's ***** azz wins. He already got rid of that. He knew his days were numbered.

55/45 fight in my eyes on the Cotto side.

He has shown more in his last few fights than Canelo. Also if Canelo wins it will be on points, he is not as big of a puncher as a lot of ppl make him to be. He is more of a sharp combination puncher with slow feet and fast hands.

In the end this is boxing and anything can happen in the fight
