Comments Thread For: Ramirez: I’ll Be Bigger Star, Better Boxer Than Canelo

Gilberto Ramirez respects Canelo Alvarez and wants his fellow Mexican to beat Miguel Cotto on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

His support aside, the unbeaten super middleweight contender expects to surpass even the considerable level of superstardom the 25-year-old Alvarez has attained in Mexico and the United States.

Hmmmm, he's a special boxer but, he's in the slow lane, Canelo is in the fast line. He won't be as big of a star doing what he's doing in his career whilst Canelo is fighting the men he's fighting!

this kid looks like carlos monzon without the evil in his eyes

monzon was slow himself, but he had a ridiculous chin, ring generalship, and power. somehow had great stamina, in spite of the fact that he was a chain smoker. probably had something to do with how little energy he wasted.

He sounds dumb right now in all honesty. He isn't even close to Canelo. He has done nothing in boxing. He's a loooooong way from accomplishing what Canelo has done in the ring let alone the popularity he has garnered. Worry about beating a real fighter instead of tomato cans, worry about winning a title then unifying titles then rising to become the number 1 ranked fighter in your division, beat some great fighters and future hall of famers do all that instead of talking about Canelo who has done that and is ONLY what 10 months older then you. They in the SAME age bracket for christ sake yet the level of competition both guys have faced is laughable that's how wide it is. I'm sick of these young fighters talking like this when they doing nothing but fighting bums. It's easy to say I'm better then this guy I do things better then that guy I'm going to be better then him when he's fighting world class fighters and hall of famers and you fighting guys we ain't never heard of.

funny thing is, at some point he was part of canelos stable(canelo promotions) and they are almost the same age... ramirez has a long way for that, but he needs to start by stepping up competition, top rank isnt helping him on that matter...

HBO is setting up a Ramirez-GGG fight for 2016.

GGG will look human at 168. It's a huge step up from Middleweight.

I could understand if he were saying these things to just drum up hype and maybe force Canelo to fight him in the future and tactics like that are common in boxing. But that's not the case the size and weight difference is huge. Canelo is 5'9 and will never fight higher then 160 he's just too short. Ramirez is almost 6'3 and is fighting at 168 but his future will be at 175. But he'll never fight Canelo so why make these comments?

If this Ramirez guy wins today's fight convincingly, I'd love to see him fight and destroy Chavez Jr. at supper-middleweight, or even at a "convenient catch-weight" between SMW and LHW. That way he would have beaten at least one "big name" in boxing (even if he is a total bum, but he still has a name).

Then, on to the top big guys. But his height alone, calls for becoming way more than a SMW, at 6'3".
