The WBC belt does mean something. If it weren't for the WBC allowing him to fight Martinez, Cotto wouldn't be recognized as the first Puerto Rican who became a 4 division world champion. The WBC offered him a chance to make history, which Cotto admitted was very important to him. Now when it's time to pay them he says "screw you". Every fighter pays a sanctioning fee to fight for their belt.
