It is not the fact the Cotto does not want to fight GGG. If you just look at it as isolated fact, there is nothing to be ashamed about, Cotto knows his limits. But the fact that he was holding on to this belt and gained unfair advantage against Canelo (not to mention advertising the future bout as Championship) - this is borderline felony. And in any case can't be defended from the moral standpoint.

Damn right, all these belts are essentially meaningless, they're a joke. The IBF is one of the worst offenders too, their belts are about as valuable as used toilet paper. All these belts need to be taken to a recycling plant and turned into disposable nappies.

Cotto won the lineal championship that traces back to Bernard Hopkins. The WBC has nothing to do with that.

And this is the problem to those defending the WBC. They choose when and where to follow their rules and when and where to break them. So they positioned Golovkin to an interim spot which in most cases, goes against their rules. But they did it and it's not necessarily a bad thing. So cotto and Golovkin made a step aside deal. That's all fine and well but cotto doesn't want to pay his sanctioning fee, so they strip him. And wgat do they proceed to do? Allow am unranked fighter (Canelo) to fight for a title that according to their own rules should be going to Golovkin. Canelo doesn't care about the title and he's not gonna defend it against Golovkin. He's stated as much. But dies the WBC care? No. People make it about Cotto. But he's entitled to do what he wants. The WBC are the ones that play loose with the rules leading to confusion and drama.

                    "This is about principle"

                    The principle of robbing mfers.

I definitely agree with the WBC guy that Cotto owes GGG $800k, but what I don't get is why the WBC is the middleman in all this. Shouldn't Cotto just be paying GGG like what typical goes down in a step aside arrangement? Why is the WBC involved in that money agreement & exchange at all? Seems like a A & B conversation & the WB can C their way out.
