hey Miguel, you didnt seem to mind when for financial reasons the WBC allowed Martinez to fight YOU (even though you were not even ranked at 160)
That was just peachy. But now its a problem? lol
The biggest ********** in the sport is whining because other people think about money too.
Laughable........
p.s. and Im sure GGG's attorneys appreciate you admitting that you agreed to pay him the $800k. That statement will be quite helpful to them......Last edited by OnePunch; 11-19-2015, 09:22 AM.Comment

I don't see how the step aside can be enforced against him. He was stripped. He didn't let the title go. The organization stripped him and now he has jo title to step aside for. I highly doubt Golovkin is getting thst money from Cotto.Comment

Yes the orgs are in it for money, that's always been the case through out their history. However, the $800k has nothing directly to do with the WBC - it's a result of Cotto being a champion and having a mandatory that he chose not to fight. Cotto used his status as WBC MW champion as leverage to secure a financial deal with Alvarez. Cotto negotiated an agreement with Golovkin to proceed with his financial deal with Alvarez.
Even Cotto and his manager are saying they're not sure if they can get out of paying the step-aside fee. But as always the case - if a party can show monetary damage then they have a case. Here Golovkin would be the WBC champion already had Cotto not agreed to pay or fight him.
A boxing official involved in the deal but not authorized to comment publicly on the step-aside fee said the $800,000 is due. "Cotto saying he is not fighting for the title does not relieve them of any obligation that was agreed to," the official said.Miguel Cotto repeated his disinterest in paying $300,000 in sanctioning fees to the World Boxing Council on Wednesday and questioned whether he is obligated to pay Gennady Golovkin $800,000 in a step-aside fee.
@WBCBoxing So the rest is just for Golovkin to step aside?

@RussKidFlash The step aside agreement has nothing to do with us. If the mandatory was fought then no step aside fee would be needed to pay.

K2 agreed to the 800k not to enforce the mandatory position. If they knew Cotto's gonna try to reneg on that contract they would have forced him to give up the belt and let Golovkin get 6-9 months ago, instead of having to wait for Cotto to play out his little game.
What Cotto is trying to do is screw over another boxer. I like Cotto as a boxer and haven't had any problems with his requests (even CWs weren't too bad), but this is a straight up b!tch move.Comment

The step aside money was to allow Cotto-Canelo to be negotiated and signed without Cotto being stripped. That happened. GGG held up his end.
The fact that a subsequent event (Cotto not wanting to pay his sanctioning fee) caused him to get stripped is irrelevant.Last edited by OnePunch; 11-19-2015, 09:27 AM.Comment

He was stripped because he refused to pay his sanctioning fee - that in itself has nothing to do with his previous agreement with Golovkin. Golovkin would currently be the WBC champion otherwise because Cotto would have had to fight him or be stripped for refusing to fight him.Comment

So.. too many champions so you refuse to unify?
- Cotto should have dropped the belt immediately after he got it. I guess he thought he could avoid GGG forever. Making Golovkin the mando was weird but that doesn´t mean it was a bad thing.Comment
