Comments Thread For: Cotto Fully Credits Career Resurgence To Roach's Wizardry

By Jake Donovan - Through nearly 15 years in the pro ranks, there are certain things we’ve come to learn about Miguel Cotto. He’s never going to be that boxer who leaves you with gripping sound bites. He’s never been one to call out another fighter – in fact the one quote with which he would leave reporters to confirm both claims was “I fight who they put in front of me.”

Figure out what Cotto truly loves and you’re finally left with something different. The list is not very long: his family, his livelihlood - and his fighter/trainer relationship with Hall of Fame chief second Freddie Roach.

He obviously loves to let his fists do the talking. That’s about all he was willing to reveal in the buildup to Saturday’s anticipated showdown with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, which airs live on HBO Pay-Per-View from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Even the fight itself is just another night in the office for Cotto, who refers to the event as “my fight No. 45, nothing special with it.” [Click Here To Read More]

He's the same guy who fought Trout, don't be fooled.

Beating Sergio "Stephen Hawking" Martinez and a few average fighters doesn't mean he's anything like he was.

I just hope if he does get a beating by Canelo that his fans won't turn round and say he was done, because right now they all think he's the second coming of Sugar Ray Robinson.

Respect to Cotto. Blood and guts warrior and always has been (all trash talk aside). But Roach is no wizard. No brilliant tactician. He also has a gym full of fighters either caught or suspected of bending the rules (over the years). Any time one of his guys starts looking ten years younger I can't help but wonder.

Roach may get on most peoples nerves but he is a great trainer. Some fighters didnt work out for him but thats with any trainer. Hes been able to do great things for fighters and boxing. More people just about all his fighters are exciting to watch since he so offensive minded.

But triple G wont move up to 168lbs and give Ward his limelight, why he no do that?

I mean its not enough Ward was gifted with the super-six and gifted to fight in his home backyard and never have to leave whilst everyone else did, we need triple G to move up and give 50/50 and by what Ward said about him fighting at 160 for Floyd, I think Floyd should come up to 168 and also by what Ward said about him fighting at heavyweight I think Wladimir should come down to 168lbs its only fair he is P4P #2 afterall
