i don't know. Your making it seem so important but for a guy (al haymon) who's had everything figured out ahead of time, its hard to see him leaving out such an important figure for the PBC.

Well Haymon is still human & makes mistakes. Most guys like Haymon are defined in their success by their corrections to problems or mistakes than them having the master perfect plan all the time in my experience. And I tend to think Schaefer could have been the guy for this sorta role the whole time & in the first year it wasn't a do or die role to fill thus waiting for Schaefer seemed reasonable.

All speculation obviously, we'll see. I just don't know how they get to a point when they have PBC belts (which seems like a future goal down the line somewhere) & don't have a publicly seen & media accountable CEO/President/some sorta public facing role type person is I guess the main thing making me feel like its a role that will be filled sooner rather than later.

Solid take on the promoters being "the faces & voices" of PBC via their own events which is valid. There is some element of wtf else does a person in this role do besides talk to the media that I myself haven't fully formed in my own head yet. The whole PBC entity seems so secretive & almost coup-ish in its development that having someone talking about PBC's drive, plans & goals seems counterproductive to the road they've traveled so far.

Haymon DOES NOT need Schaefer. If he get's a job it's just a thank you for helping him steal away Golden Boy fighters. His biggest asset was he held the keys to the Golden Boys roster. Well that's now gone. Haymon has tons of investors for PBC he don't need Schaefer to get investors he's got the money already. Schaefer can't help with advertising because that is all based on the TV Ratings. PBC needs to put on a better product and turn the crappy TV ratings around to get advertisers not sign Schaefer. As for bring him in to be the front man isn't that what the promoters are supposed to do? I thought PBC and Haymon are NOT promoters guys like Dibella and whatever sham of month promoter that is holding that event needs to be doing that. You got Haymon in court fighting charges saying he is NOT a promoter but you want him to hire a promoter to work for him and speak, talk and act like a promoter? I'm sure that would help his lawsuits. lol

Look, Richard Schaefer is undoubtedly the scum of the earth and a total backstabber. But if there's one thing he is good at, it's promotion and (as far as I can tell) matchmaking. The fights under Haymon were a hundred times better when Schaefer was there, and he did an admirable job at the podium in promoting, whereas now they have nobody.

Do I like the fact that he will just be more one more guy insisting that they never work with any other promoters? Hell no. But if Haymon is going to be insular and not work with anyone else anyways, at least this may improve the quality of the PBC. Right now the PBC is utter ****, and you know it.

He is probably a good match-maker, but his main strengths are business acumen and negotiating.

If you think Oscar built Golden Boy Promotions you really don't know what's going on. I don't expect boxing fans to know the business of boxing but I expect them to be quiet if they don't know. To get you up on speed read this article by Hauser. It was written years ago.

Oscar came to Richard and asked him to help start a business. GBP was Schaefer's idea. HBO Latino boxing was Schaefer's idea. Getting AEG to invest into GBP and then turning around and buying a portion of the Houston Dynamos, a team AEG owned. The Barclay's deal. The HBO output deal. He's been a part of 4 of the top 10 highest selling boxing PPV's. It's so much more that I'm not going to get into right now. But if you think Schaefer ain't a good business man and great promoter you're crazy. He came from a banking background and built GBP from nothing to the #1 promoter in less than 10 years.

He is a very good businessman, a great promoter, and probably the very best negotiator in the game today.

You won't find a better man than Schaeffer, nor will Haymon.

I would say that an executive position (with options) is just sitting there waiting for Schaeffer to accept/reject.

Richard is a smart front man/leader. If he joins PBC it will explode even further. He made GBP the powerhouse it once was and when he left it began to crumble. Richard is the man and i hope he joins the future in PBC

Never said he wasn't a good business man I said he would of never been in boxing in the first place if not for Oscar and Oscar didn't need Schaefer to run his company he could of gotten anyone and Oscar's name and brand at the time is why they scooped up high end talent and had big exposure on HBO. The early success of Golden Boy was because of Oscar's influence and popularity in the sport at the time. Did Hopkins, Mosley, Barerra, ect sign because of Schaefer or because of Oscar? And the huge exposure Golden Boy fighters got on HBO was that because of Schaefer or because Oscar who was the biggest thing in boxing? HBO loved Oscar and gave his company all the dates he wanted to keep Oscar happy and keep him on HBO. The influx of latino fighters and LA fighters that signed up was that because of Schaefer or Oscar? Those guys signed because they were fans of Oscar growing up. The reason Golden Boy had so many advantages early on was because of Oscar. Schaefer made some great business moves in the latter years. Give him credit for the last few years and deals he brokered all you want. But early on the talent and HBO deal was because of Oscar not Schaefer. Even today Canelo signed with Golden Boy because of Oscar it had nothing to do with Schaefer and it's why he never got his hooks into him or got him to sign with Haymon. To act like Oscar's name and brand meant nothing to the success of Golden Boy is just ignorant. You don't get high end boxing talent signing up to a newbie Promotion Company because of a successful swiss banker. You get that talent from a living icon and the biggest cash cow in the sport endorsing it.

Cant really see him make a difference. After taking all of Oscar's stable I don't think he really has much left to do for haymon.

Haymon cant manage 200+ fighters.

He won't get a better guy than Schaeffer.

If he comes back to boxing, it's Okay, I guess. But, whoever he is working with needs to watch their back, or else.

I would bet my life the writing was on the wall for Hoya.

Hoya let his drug habit affect his company, he may not have noticed.

Schaeffer shouldn't be required to accept that.

When Hoya made a reconciliation with Arum his number one priority, simply because he needed to knock Arum's name off his 12-step list..... Richard should have walked then..... because that was a massive step backwards considering their momentum in the 12-18 months prior.

They should have got in bed with PBC and finished Top Rank off for good.
