The team has to pay for their rings (in the NBA at least.)

Also, since boxing isn't under one body I think it's totally different.

      Most sports have prize money.

The prize money has already had the organisation costs taken out, so yeah you are paying to be WC in a roundabout way.

Cotto ducked GGG, GGG allowed Cotto to have this defense of his WBC title instead of saying **** you Cotto fight me or drop the belt Cotto has obviously agreed to that and only just now he's having a little *****ing fit about the possibilities of having to face someone he knows would take his head off lol.

What is even more pathetic is Canelo pays what he has to when he is earning the low ball percentage whilst Cotto got his high end of the percentage met it just goes to show you all how pathetic and greedy this arrogant little man really is, I can only hope for Canelo to lay him out and retire this worthless POS once and for all.

What a lot of butthurt from Cotto haters on this one! HAHAHA!! Nobody cares to mention how the WBC, headed by (cough) Mauricio Sulaiman, son of the late and corrupt Jose Sulaiman, buddies with JCC and godfather of Junior, biased toward Mexican fighters his entire life....... arbitrarily demands that Cotto cough up $300k for a (cough) "sanctioning fee", on top of the $800k step aside fee for GGG so the Canelo fight can take place. A whopping $1.1 million. Anybody want to speculate how much it would've cost Ginger had HE been the one holding the belt?

Cotto tells the corrupt WBC to shove... and Cotto haters blow a gasket.
            Rich!
The only thing better than this episode will be Cotto laying out Canelo in the fight itself. Which in itself would be a favor to Canelo, since he's totally on record saying he's got no intentions of facing GGG, either in the near future, and much less at 160.

            Gotta love this ****!!

If there is any charge to be a champion in any other of the major sports, it's a one time fee. Not something that every time the defending team plays they have to pay a fee. That would be silly. Boxing is a broke ass sport though, they don't even have pension plans like all other major sports. F-cking pro Golf, PGA, has a lucrative compensation package for their retired players.

the nfl commisioner makes 44 million a year.

Its a business people find ways to get rich off of it. Boxing is not different just this sports everything is very simple 1+1=2 where as other sports they know where to hide and are govern by on entity so the players have to follow the rules.

You think if the NBA issued a championship belt to the season winners and each player will be deducted 50K you think the players can deny that?

The money has already been deducted before its paid to the winning team/competitor.

Boxing just does it a different way round .

All sports sanctioning orgs get paid

basketball and football the team owners put up hundreds of thousands to buy championship rings very similar to paying for a belt
