Cotto sure wanted the belt on the line when he faced Martinez.....now all of a sudden he don't care about titles and just vacates....not here to comment on how much the fee or the costs are and the political side of it......all I see now is cotto using everything and everybody to get what he wants and to sithen every penny out of a fight .....there's no honour in that...and I'm not even bothered about the right now ..it's becoming a circus for clowns this so called 2nd biggest fight of the year ....I'm done with this fight . war golovkin

It really doesnt matter, neither one of them will have to fight lil g anyway...Since Ward has moved up a division, lil g will be able to move up and take on some 168 boxers so 160 will be clear for Canelo to be a middleweight champion, he can face the same guys lil g fought since they are supposed to be credible comp, and when Canelo beats them he will be promoted like crazy by GoldenBoy.

It does take away from conelo victory if he wins ...winning the belt from the lineal champion is one thing..winning a vacant belt is another...both men are not fighting for the belt anymore ...so I see why everyone involded is piss.....cotto is making kine 30mill i dont think he was stressing out the money that much

Yeah but it's the same thing. Cotto defeated Martinez for the title, and if Canelo defeats Cotto, he will still get the title. So vacant or not, the situation and the outcome is the same. The belt may be vacant but it's not truly vacant. Canelo is fighting the same guy who vacated the title. Now if Cotto moved different weight class and vacated the title, and Canelo is fighting some bum for that title, that would take away from the victory.

No horse in this race, but hear this out...surprised not one person has brought it up.

Cotto wants the Alvarez payday and pays ggg his step aside to make it happen.(more of a genius move had he not paid the fee and dropped the belt without paying ggg, the two could have fought at 154 for WBC jr middleweight and ring middleweight aka Floyd and sugar ray)

Cotto not willing to face ggg at 160, and knows that mandatory doesn't have to subject himself to catch weights.

By not paying the sanctioning fees cotto saves $300,000(down $500,000 due to step aside fee) but still gets Alvarez payday.

If Cotto beats Alvarez , ggg is the WBC champ, and he will no longer be cotto's mandatory. By no longer being the mandatory he can't refuse cotto's insistence on a catch weight.

Cotto offers to fight ggg at 155 for the lineal title and if ggg wants to be the man, he has to make the weight. (Which he wouldn't have to as the mandatory)

Meanwhile in Oscar de la Hoya camp, they paid the sanctioning fee and now if they win and DONT fight ggg(at 160 since he would be Alvarez mandatory) they are cowards!
