Cotto knows what time it is.......

No mistake there -- no step aside money for GGG, no Canelo fight (WBC ruling).no, they were charging $1.1 so that Cotto could go make $20 million (or more) against Canelo instead of getting his face bashed in by GGG.
The mistake Cotto made was paying the $800k to GGG in the first place. He should have just vacated the title and handed it over to GGG. Nobody watching the fight on Saturday cares one bit whether its a title fight or not.Comment

This is like on Seinfeld when George looks to do a preemptive break up before a woman has a chance to dump him.
This is the ultimate duck, under no circumstances was Cotto going to get in a ring with GGG. The WBC said it themeselves, they tried to make the Cotto/Canelo fight for two years but Cotto kept backing out. It wasn't until HBO stepped in and refused to air Cotto's last fight without an agreement to fight Canelo next did it happen.Comment

believe me, Im glad GGG got the money, but my point was that Cotto-Canelo is a good enough fight on its own that I dont think it would have mattered much if the WBC title was on the line or not. Cotto-Canelo could have still taken place regardless of the title.......Comment

OK -- I have nothing against big fights... But he should have vacated his 160 belts and fight whatever big fights he wanted to fight... and leave the middleweights fight for those 160 straps (because I've heard that Cotto actually doesn't give a **** about them.)Comment

totally agree 10000%Comment

They paid $800k in step aside money? No wonder Loeffler could give two fcuks about the Lemieux numbers.I'm told Cotto felt extorted by WBC because he/Roc Nation already paid $800k to GGG to step aside to allow the fight. It got to be too much.

I'm told WBC wanted $300k in sanction $ from each fighter, $25k from each promoter. Cotto wanted to negotiate lower $ (common). WBC said no.

insane that they even asked for that much hahahahaha lil'g & his team were about $$$ will always be about $$$
Plus the WBC's $300k fee is pretty steep.Last edited by BrometheusBob.; 11-17-2015, 02:17 PM.Comment
