Comments Thread For: Uchiyama-Flores, Taguchi-De La Rosa Double, 12/31

An official press conference was held to officially announce that WBA super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama (23-0-1, 19KOs) will defend his title against Nicaraguan contender Oliver Flores (27-1-2, 17KOs). The fight will take place on December 31 at the Ota City General Gymnasium in Tokyo.

Flores, ranked at number 7 by the WBA, has won five in a row since getting knocked out in two rounds in November 2012 at the hands of Mexico's Miguel Berchelt, who is currently the WBO #1 and IBF #5 ranked contender.

Very disappointing challengers for both. I have literally never heard of Flores and De La Rosa is a fragile chinned second rater. Uchiyama needs to fight a top foe outside of Japan. I think he can beat anyone from 126 through 135.

              My thoughts exactly

Uchiyama wants a big fight in the US... I think a Walters/Loma fight is makable on Uchiyama's end, at 130 for his title. Fortuna can come to Japan and be knocked out early.

Saying that though, he doesnt need to 'fight a top foe outside of japan' if he has his sights on the Miura rematch, whichll be huge.

Ever since his elbow surgery in May though, ive not really heard anything major about a big fight. Ill still watch this though, but I dont hide my disappointment. Hope he fights more than once next year.
