Comments Thread For: Konstantin Pomonarev Now Set To Face Ramses Agaton

It’s finally fight week for Konstantin Pomonarev.

The unbeaten 23-year old from Russia has been waiting more than six months to hear those words, a bit of a downer since he’s coming off of the biggest win of his career. A surprisingly one-sided decision win over Michal Zewski in their battle of unbeaten welterweights in May marked the last time Pomonarev has seen ring action.

If he's signed with Top Rank (Bob Arum), Konstantine Pomonarev won't have a meaningful fight on TV in all of 2016. He'll either be kept inactive or fight short-notice low-cost meaningless opponents like Korobov did for years.

Age 25 Ramses Agaton is high-risk, low-reward. He's bigger (Pomonarev will need to move up in weight to face him). His losses were by TD and by DQ and he's a southpaw. Agaton is NOT someone a good promoter would put a promising young welterweight against at short notice.

After looking so good against Zewski on May 1, if Pomonarev were with nearly any other promoter he have had a meaningful televised fight before now, but not so with Top Rank.

I was wondering about Pomo! I remember he looked good in his may fight but I could
Have sworned he had been more active

Nothing worse a promoter can do than keep a 22 (now 23) year old talented boxer inactive after an excellent performance like he had against Zewski.

I've seen Pom twice and the first time he looked like a punching bag getting hit at will and the next time he looked better. I've seen Agaton on many of those telefutura Azteca cards and he is tricky and a decent fighter for sure.

It's never a good idea to fight a tricky southpaw with power without sparring for a southpaw.
