Comments Thread For: Rodriguez Survives Wild Fight: Eyes Stevenson, Kovalev

By Jake Donovan - From the moment he looked at the calendar and realized the day, Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez knew to expect something crazy to happen. It came throughout the undercard and again – and again – over the course of his wild three-round shootout with Michael Seals.

“That f****n’ (Artur) Szpilka,” Rodriguez joked afterward of the heavyweight contender and his training stablemate. “Friday the 13th, you jinxed me tonight!”

Everything short of a black cat crossing under a standing ladder took place during the two-hour telecast of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike TV: Lights Out, live from Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. The final fight of the night saw Rodriguez score three knockdowns but having to overcome two of his own in getting rid of the previously unbeaten Seals in a bout that will be well-represented come year-end awards discussion. Kovalev or Stevenson?! Going 12 with Ward doesn´t mean he can do it with those two, based on the Seals fight he´ll be out in two minutes. - Oh dear, I now realize Stevenson just might fight him.

Well it was either between him or Fonfara in a rematch. Something tells me Stevenson will pick Rodriguez after watching him get floored twice in the first round.

Rodriguez needs to work on defense; he'll get killed by Kovalev or Stevenson.

What a fight. If Seals had the ability to set up his straight right hand with a jab, Rodriquez would have been out of there.

Too bad Seals holds his left hand level with his thigh and refuses to throw it with any meaningful effect.

Rodriguez is a poor man's Maidana, still fun to watch though.

Why do PBC fighters continue to call out Kovalev?

When push comes to shove this will not happen to many politics.

Rodriguez should fight Stevenson, Fonfara, or Beterbiev.

The place was nearly full, with several high action preliminary bouts... but live, it was a wild main event. Seals is from nearby Mobile, so his supporters outnumbered Rodriguez fans. I don't think we've seen the end of Seals though. He showed he has heart, and serious power. Just needs to work on defense.

Rodriguez was lucky to get past this test, and I doubt he even makes a dent in Fonfara, Pascal, Kov, or ******man.

A bit of this story is actually off though... the scuffle outside the ring happened not long after the main event was over with I believe. But definitely the crowd was into the majority of the event.
