Oh, so that's how the contract works. He can take two tune ups before June 2016, but any fight after that has to be a Kovalev fight. He should fight in January and then fight again in May.

In all fairness to Ward, he should take a fight or two before Kovalev. I'd want to see the best Ward/Kovalev fight possible. Not a fan of either, but they're both super talented.
