What is the most counterproductive thung your boxing trainer even told you?

Sometimes modern day boxing trainers can be straight goof balls. I remember my trainer told me stuff like never throw left uppercuts or to not throw hooks palm up. What are some things you're trainer told you that never really worked well?

Until you're a pro with a wining record, running your own gym, or even working full-time as a trainer, who are you to say your trainer's advice is bad? Sometimes, trainers need to give a beginner specific advice that's relevant to where he's at.
My main coach started me out in a protective, Winky-type guard. When I developed, he told be to reach forward a little with the lead, Klitschko-like, because my long reach kept guys at a nice distance. Then, to drop my lead a little because he noticed it worked with my body jab and inclination to slip punches. His advice adapted with me.
Until you can prove you know better, don't assume you know it all.

When I was 19 he told me to fight more like Ricardo mayorga .

1.light up a cigarette and talk lots of smack.

2.To tap my chin and let guys land their best shot to show them I had a chin .

3.Then he said after that to throw lots of looping punches and win or lose light up a cigarette when it was over.

Now I know all this sounds crazy ,but it actually worked 8 times out 10.

I don't wanna talk about those other two times.

Oh yeah the 9th and 10th times it didn't work was a match with me where I knocked you out cold in the first round then you said that was a fluke and wanted a rematch, where I knocked you out again in 10 seconds. Fun times.
