Is Oscar De La Hoya a Floyd Mayweather fan?

I've noticed these two have been going back and forth with each other for years. Some say Floyd was jealous of the way Oscar was promoted at the beginning of his career while others say Oscar is jealous of Floyd's longevity.

I remember during the De La Hoya vs Mayweather 24/7 Floyd said Oscar is a fan of his. He pointed out to certain comments Oscar has made in the past and the fact that De La Hoya hired Mayweather Sr. to train him.

Then I remembered Oscar saying in his post fight interview after the Vargas fight that he actually watched Mayweather's fights to help him prepare for the Vargas fight. Oscar has also said he was secretly pulling for Floyd to retire undefeated because no other boxer has retired undefeated after making the kind of money Floyd has.

So, is Oscar secretly a Floyd fan?

I point to this video. Ocar's comments at the 1:13:35 mark

Nah. Since he was the first guy to convincingly beat floyd, he talks about him like one of his most memorable wins which is perfectly understandable. Maidana can do the same as well because he earned it as well. The two guys who beat floyd clearly.

It doesn't matter. You can call it a battle of the promoters. Mayweather Promotions is on the rise and GBP has always been near the top. I don't see either guy passing up an opportunity to take a shot at the other.

Fan of his....? Eh.... I wouldn't say that.

There is a LOT of envy there.

I mean, I wouldn't take a lot of Oscar's comments seriously anyway, who's knows what he was on when he gave some of these interviews.

I think all sportsmen are somewhat fans/appreciative of other great ones in their own era but in boxing it's probably a grayer area because guys have to actually hurt each other to become better if they happen to cross paths.

I think Oscar admired how Floyd was taught the game by his father, since Oscar had his troubles with his dad being so hard on him, and he admired floyds style of using the shoulder roll and avoiding punches. But as the person who Floyd is I think doesn't like him at all.
