In his mind maybe. Cortez is a joke, but he sells himself... somehow. The guy makes ref instructional videos I read somewhere. So, yeah, stranger things have happened. But he's certainly no expert. He just sold himself as that, to the networks.

As for all these fantasy fights at CWs, it is getting kind of outta hand really. No way Cortez knows what Canelo or GGG are capable of weightwise. Nor do we. But we certainly see a majority of the time CWs ruin a fighters performance for one reason or another. There's certainly a long list from recent years. One thing I wouldn't expect from a CW drained fighter is as good of a performance as they normally give.

Retire referee and ESPN Deportes expert analyst Joe Cortez has serious doubts about Golovkin's ability to make that weight. He even doubts Golovkin is capable of making any catch-weight limit for such a fight.

Cortez hasn't got a clue. Expert analyst??? ROFLMAO All Cortez is is a very suspect official in my book whether it was incompetance or blatant corruption with some of his performances we must all make up our own mind

All Cortez gave was his opinion. I also don't believe Golovkin can make 154 and be healthy......my opinion.
Agreed, many people have already stated this so Cortez isn't alone in his belief. A win over a drained GGG does nothing for Mayweather's legacy and a win over a much smaller Mayweather does nothing for GGG.

The only positive thing to come out of a the fight would be GGG getting a good payday......not much incentive for Mayweather.

If he say he would go to 154 for Mayweather I believe him. It really doesn't matter because a GGG vs. Mayweather fight is never going to happen anyway. I may be the only boxing fan in the world who believes him but Mayweather says he is retired for good and forever. I wish people would quit matching him with other boxers unless he says he is ending his retirement but I guess they can't help it. Mayweather refused to go any higher than 152 to fight the 23 year old Canelo. He sure is not going to fight GGG at 154. NO WAY,NO HOW!

I don't think Floyd's ever weighed 160 pounds in life; no doubt in my mind that he walks around 155/156 when just lounging.

Yes, Floyd has a personal chef; if you've seen any of the meals that get cooked for him when in camp (All Access or otherwise), you would see that he rarely cuts much out of his diet (maybe a little less fried food). Simply compare Floyd's diet regiment to the diet of any other fighter you've seen, who often simply starve/boil themselves down to weight.

Floyd must have been generous in buying out Joe Cortez. Protected him as a ref and an analyst.

See there is a difference between what we think and how nutrition works bruh...it's called burn rate intake versus output. Your metabolism adjusts around that rate. Most guys Floyd is fighting drop weight yes and yet on fight night Floyd is bigger than most welters he's face and they end up actually stepping on the scales the day of the fight while he doesn't.

Based on what are you trying to argue that Floyd is bigger than the welterweights that he steps into the ring with?

In the past decade, you can point to maybe 3 fights where Floyd Mayweather walked into the ring as the bigger man: vs Pacquiao, vs Marquez, and possibly vs. Hatton. get over yourself.

Get floyds sack off your eyes and tell me he wasn't bigger than ortiz, in terms of definition muscle mass he wasn't wider than guerrero? The only fighter Floyd has faced he wasn't bigger than in his 6 fights is Canelo but it's cool I get it cuz...let the myth bullshhh ride on.

Time to take a nap old man. Ortiz came in the ring much heavier than floyd. Period. One guy weighed 150 and the other 160+. These are facts. I'm not even sure how u are sitting there arguing otherwise
