The decline of the super middlweight division

Since froch and kessler have retired, the supermiddle weight division has to be the ****test in the world.

Degale is not even p4p top 50 and bundu jack along with wilder at heavyweight has to be one of the worst champions ever.

Will callum smith save this atrocious division?

It's a rather weak division right now.

Martin Murray is decent and has moved up. Eubank Jr is another big middleweight, he'll probably move up soon.

Degale was impressive apart from easing off for rounds against dirrell. Dirrell & Groves could be good but past losses could have messed with their confidence long term. Jack fought well against Groves. Abraham is 1 dimensional. Murray is limited.
Division was never that great at super 6. It was the format & where they were forced to fight each other. It's all about the lower weights now. Light heavy only has a few fights but they're interesting if they happen. Heavies are too far behind wlad. If Fury pulls the upset then that opens up.
Last great fighters was bhop & Manny. Floyds great but needed too much in his favour & most are glad to see back of him. That's hit home so now he's trying to stay relevant posting photos of cash & slating other fighters.

Not being in the top 50 is not so bad. If the top 50 pound for pound boxers were evenly divided between the 17 different weight classes it would average about 3 top 50 boxers per weight class. 140, 147 and 154 might have a few more than their fair share of top 50 pfp boxers. You are right of course. With Ward and Froch gone 168 is not that strong a weight class.

Give it a few years. Got many others to focus on.

Honestly the division has never been great. The Super Six consisted of 3 MWs, a prospect, A euro level fighter, and a veteran who has already shown to be a B fighter.

But I agree that the division is especially weak when compared to even that era. All the top ten fighters have blatant weaknesses.

I laugh at posters that think Badou Jack is even a candidate for FOTY for two razer thin decisions against one unproven fighter and an admittedly pretty good fighter in Groves in a shaky division.

Divisions change all the time. In a couple of years some 168 pounders that aren't well known now could prove to be excellent.

It's not the best right now.
I'm quite looking forward to AA Vs Murray, and i'd like to see DeGale Vs Jack, but the division does lack quality in depth. Not a great deal of exciting fights to make.
