Comments Thread For: Terry Flanagan-Derry Mathews Edges One Step Closer

Following on from Saturday’s story by Boxing Scene’s Elliot Foster about a possible WBO lightweight title clash between champion Terry Flanagan and challenger Derry Mathews in the New Year http://www.boxingscene.com/flanagan-mathews-showdown-eyed-new-year--97861, ‘Scene contacted promoter Frank Warren for an update on the situation.

My biggest gripe with the sport is bollocks like this...

      I wouldn't mind seeing Flanagan vs Crolla/Mitchell/Burns/Campbell.

Matthews must be sucking someone off 'cause after this fight with Flanagan, if Crolla wins the WBA title - he'll be fighting him for it.

I'd like to see Derry get that title shot. I felt for him when his 2 title fights with Abril fell through due to Abril's illness. Then he won his interim fight, and according to his twitter page he will have to face Barroso before getting any shot at the Crolla Vs Perez winner.

Barroso will probably beat him, so a fight with Flanagan will probably be his only title shot now. So i hope he gets it...i do think Flanagan will be too young and fresh for him though.

To be fair, Matthews holds a win and a disputed draw over Crolla who will have somehow got two title shots before him.

This is all 100% B/S from team Flannigan & Matthews. Okay there all looking for an easy payday, but what about our sport? Richard Commey, Kevin Mitchell & the winner of the Crolla/(& what ever his name is??) fight could really work out well. Flannigan VS Linares looks best though!!........

Flanagan's promoters aren't going to put him in with the likes of Linares just yet. I don't think Flanagan is quite the finished article, even though he holds a belt. However a rematch with Mathews is also pretty crap.

A Mitchell fight would be my preference. This would give us some sort of gauge as to how well he'd cope with Linares.
