Comments Thread For: Lennox Lewis: Wilder Could Cause Povetkin Problems

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis was ringside a few days ago in Russia, and watched Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) stop Polish giant Mariusz Wach in the twelfth round.

Povetkin is the mandatory challenger to World Boxing Council [WBC] heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs).

A lot of experts are picking Povetkin to win the contest if the two fighters meet in the ring. Their negotiations are going to be ordered in the next few weeks. [Click Here To Read More]

Even after that night-time jab tutorial, Lennox isn't impressed with Wilder.

We know what his chin is like... all it takes is 1 good hit/combo from Povetkin and Wilder will shatter.

Regardless, this is a fantastic fight. Most exciting fight around!

I like Wilder, I might even root for him with this one.

The height and reach advantage of Wilder will def cause problems for Povetkin but if Sasha is able to get on the inside then I can see him winning. Wilder's chin was solid against Stiverne but he looked vulnerable against Molina who was knocked out in the 1st by arreola also was getting hit with the jab too much by Duhaupas. Wilder needs to fight someone who has a similar style to Povetkin, I was hoping for Mansour but he won't be available.

I used to think the same thing but Wilder ate some decent shots against Stiverne and held his own. Not sure who hits harder between Stiverne or Povetkin but Wilder seems to have decent punch resistance.

A lot of questions in general would be answered from such a fight.

I'm not a big Wilder fan the way he's kind of avoided fighting anyone to hang onto his belt while he's being brought along, but I also thought that Stiverne would starch him out by 9. Wrong on that. We still haven't seen someone truly crack Wilder yet, though. Then we'll know what he's made of.

Indeed. People make the simple mistake of thinking his chin is suspect. It's not his chin, it's his tenancy to pause after being it. Canelo has this. Bradley and Golovkin even have a little of this. If he's focused like he was against Stiverne, he'll be fine.
