Levi Martinez got paid off by Golden Boy in the Canelo-Lara fight. I have no clue what that guy was watching, he didn't even have to explain on why he judge the fight so lob sided. He's protected by the same corrupted commission.

The worst thing is these same judges get appointed even after judging terribly. The state commission just make sure that they can make the most $$$ and get the work opportunitys to make even more when such and such is a cash cow.

Look at Mayweather. The guy brings in so much $$$ in Vegas during fight week that he basically makes all the rules. He picks the ref, judges, makes his own schedule for drug/PED testing because he brings in the dough.

The judges know what the sanctioning body wants. The sanctioning body knows what the promoter wants. If you don't play ball, you don't get assignments, plain and simple.

But businesses of this nature are all about plausible deniability. Flat out paying off a judge for a certain fight is a) too risky and b) completely unnecessary.

It's also short sighted as it's far more important to know that you've curried that will tilt things in your favor over and over, night after night, for the long haul.
Great post. No one is paying judges money to sway a decision in 2015; in the era of cell phone apps that can act as a bug, it's way too big a risk. If it was happening, people would be getting caught and arrested. Period.

Remember: judges are usually professionals with fulltime careers who may not exactly need the money, but at the same time they do get paid when there's a fight, so if a promoter is putting on a lot of events in their city/state, that promoter is also putting money in their pockets. It's human nature to behave accordingly.

Anyone pay attention to the coach for Povetkin-Wach ??? He was all over Wach, lol a little too extreme. Povetkin's side obviously don't want a Klitschko mess #2

That isn't how it works but judges are paid by the lead promoter.

I don't think it's as cut and dry as just telling a judge he gets 20 grand if he picks your fighter. Maybe it has been at times but imagine how out of control that could get if 2 sides had to bid over the judges every fight. What did the Pac-Floyd judges make, more than the fighters? Not to mention some fights end up too one-sided for a robbery to ven be feasible so the money only counts if the fight is a close split decision.

It's probably less exciting and more like normal office politics -- you (promoters, managers, TV execs) find a judge from your country or ethnicity and get good with them, shmooze up and spoil them until they feel guilty for scoring close rounds against you.

I feel like its a lil more complicated than people suggest.

One often overlooked fact is its not like judges just judge in a vacuum. There are judges who favor or dislike certain styles.

As a promoter I'm sure there are commission connections you could use to your advantage with $ offerings that could get certain judges scheduled for the fight you'd want him to judge. Thats probably where this corruption is going down at. Sure there is some quid pro quo **** in the entire process with all the major players that could be going own with lower level ****, but I'm guessing fight fixing level things still require some money exchanging hands somewhere in the cycle.
