A lightweight world title fight between Terry Flanagan and Derry Mathews is being eyed for the new year.

Manchester's Flanagan, who holds the division's WBO crown, had been set to defend his trinket against rival Mathews, from Liverpool, on the ‘Xmas Cracker’ card being put on by promoter Frank Warren, in association with Adam Booth, on December 19 at Manchester Arena.

Derry Mathews is top fighter at domestic level but that's it, and he's seen better days anyway. With that in mind, given Frank Warren has lauded Flanagan as a superstar in the making, I can't believe that the prospect of going 30 miles down the road to fight Mathews in Liverpool would be "a stumbling block" for the Manc.
