Amir Khan (31-3) is working on a potential rematch with Danny Garcia (31-0) a source close to Khan has exclusively revealed to BNtv.
Our source told us “Khan is keen to avenge his loss to Garcia,” he went on to say “It may be a lucrative fight [against Pacquiao] but he [Khan] just wants to get back in the ring and set his place at 147 – against Garcia for the WBC belt, that’s a good route, no?”
We know Khan was working on plan B in case the Pacquiao deal fell through and this revelation raises the question: Is Garcia now plan A?
When the WBC stripped Floyd Mayweather Jr. of his welterweight title last week they mandated a fight between Khan and Garcia for the vacant title.
Both Khan and Garcia work with Al Haymon and therefore such a fight should be easy to make. There are even whispers that Haymon is currently working to make this fight happen in early 2016.
Khan, who waited three years to fight Mayweather, was snubbed on four occasions with Mayweather preferring Marcos Maidana (twice), Manny Pacquiao and Andre Berto. So understandably, he is not enthused by the idea of waiting around even for a chance to share the ring with Manny Pacquiao.
Perhaps, for Khan, the Garcia fight makes the most sense right now. Garcia has improved his game since the pair previously met but Khan is still the more well-rounded of the two and if he remains focused he should easily out-point Garcia.
Essentially, in one fight, Khan could; get revenge, silence his detractors, cement his place in the welterweight division and win the WBC title. That’s not a bad plan at all.
