I know getting opportunities to main event a card and probably some good money too don't come often, but how can promoters let their fighters go from D level fighters to almost A class in Provodnikov? Didn't they saw this kid wasn't ready for this type of bout? Even Jose Feliciano could tell the boy was gonna get crushed by the Siberian Rocky.

Sometimes going step by step is the best way to develop your boxers, this was too much, this is how careers get derailed for expecting much in someone who has an undefeated record but doesn't have the experience for this type of match.

Round 1

Rodriguez praying before the bell, hopefully for his health. The bell sounds and to the center they come, they touch gloves. Rodriguez much taller than Provodnikov. Provodnikov throws a rare jab. Rodriguez jabs to back Provodnikov off. Rodriguez moving very nicely around this tiny ring. Provodnikov has him trapped and he lets him out of the corner. Provodnikov much more measured than we’re used to seeing him, he jabs the body and head. Provodnikov counters nicely with a right to the body. The usual primitive offense seems have been upgraded. Rodriguez with a jab. Provodnikov with a heavy right hand to the body. Provodnikov jabs the body and gets clipped with a left hook, he lands the right. Rodriguez with a 2 punch combination. Rodriguez with a hard left hook. Provodnikov left himself open as he went to the body. Provodnikov with a right to the body, a big looping right over the top. Rodriguez takes it well, he thuds a left off Provodnikov’s head. A very different Provodnikov than we’re used to seeing.

Provodnikov with a hard jab to the body, Rodriguez counter him on top with a jab. Provodnikov with a heavy right to the body. He jabs the head. Provodnikov stalking. Provodnikov has him in the corner and he’s staying disciplined, doesn’t immediately go for the kill. They trade body shots. Provodnikov with another body shot. Provodnikov with a nice left uppercut. A right hook by Provodnikov. Rodriguez comes back with a nice right and left. Rodriguez not getting outclassed here. Rodriguez with a light jab. Rodriguez with a left hook. Provodnikov with a very nice 1-2. Provodnikov with a right and left hook, Rodriguez slipped a right in there. Rodriguez not backing down from Provodnikov. Provodnikov with a nice lead left hook. Rodriguez felt that one. Big left and right from Provodnikov. Another left from Provodnikov. Body shot from Provodnikov.

Round 3

Provodnikov chops with the right. They trade left hooks. A big right from Provodnikov. A nice hard left and right to the body by Provodnikov. They trade left hooks again. Provodnikov staying disciplined on defense, he avoids a left hook. A very nice right by Provodnikov set up with a jab. Provodnikov eats a jab, misses a big left hook. A right by Provodnikov, another 1-2 for Provodnikov. A left hook by Rodriguez. They trade jabs. Provodnikov gets him with the left hook. A nice 1-1-2 from Rodriguez gets Provodnikov’s attention. A right hand to the body by Provodnikov. Provodnikov with a lot of pressure that round.

Round 4

Provodnikov fighting a measured and patient fight. Not trying to force anything that isn’t there. A right and left to the body by Provodnikov. Provodnikov withs him with a big right and Rodriguez is badly hurt. Referee jumps in to stop… no he’s not. He’s hurt thought. Provodnikov working him not eh ropes. A big right, another big right. Rodriguez with a left. Provodnikov destroying this guy and finally he goes down. His legs are clearly not there. Referee gonna let him continue. Provodnikov with a jab. A huge right from Provodnikov. Rodriguez digs in some body shots. He’s on shaky legs and still trying to throw. A huge right and left from Provodnikov and Rodriguez goes flying into the ropes and the referee waves this one off. Provodnikov scores a 4th round stoppage.
