It's a bigger issue than that. Only a handful of fighters have an inside game these days.

Povetkin needs to get dirtier. He is too sportsmanlike and clean. This cost him bigtime against Wlad.

Wach? He's 7 ft tall. Trying to fight inside would just be an embarrassing form of suicide.

That is a big part of why Povetkin's fight against Wlad was so garbage, he refused to work inside. He just let it occur without even trying a little bit with Wlad being a good enough boxer from distance being able to pick Povetkin off on the way in.

To make it worse he basically bull rushed his way in to do that nothing.

That will be problematic against Wilder also who has a huge range advantage with power and fast hands.

Wilder has a huge advantage here, he's probably one of the better inside HW fighters because of his aggressiveness.

Wach was landing some good uppercuts and right hands when he decided to throw, shots like those from Wilder will probably drop Povetkin. Wach also had success with his jab early in the fight, Wilder's is much better and can really do damage against Pov.

Povetkin will have to fight coming forward in order to win and avoid inside fighting in the middle of the ring. Wilder is vulnerable to the uppercut, Povetkin's gonna have to make him go back in a straight line, get him on the ropes and land those uppercuts in order to win.

Put the blame mainly on Wach, who was absolute garbage. He tired during the second half of the fight and did this leaning all the time. Povetkin was trying to bring the fight to him for the most part, get under Wach's jab, etc. Fighting on the inside becomes hard when you have a 260 pound door leaning forward, down on you.

Its difficult to say with Wilder.

In the Duhuapas fight he showed he has at least been working on his inside game, but he was still pretty raw. offensively he was decent, but Duhuapas was able to land very easily too.

By all rights Povetkin should be better than DW inside. He has the shorter arms and the stocky build that favours inside work, But he seems completely clueless/unwilling to mix it up in there. At mid range he is extremely dangerous though and hes better at long range than he looks too

He really wasnt leaning or holding that bad though. They were just standing there waiting for the ref to break them. All 3 guys in the ring were too blame for it imo.

Was still a pretty decent fight/ performance for Pov, but was frustrating to see this side of the sport so neglected.

I reckon if Povetkin was more skilled inside he could have forced a referee stoppage mid rounds. There would have been nowhere to go for Wach.

So far in his career Anthony Joshua has been very good at keeping his hands moving up close. Its not always the cleanest work, but its good to see

Well I agree to an extent, and I thought Povetkin looked a bit poor in there, he wasn't moving enough. He looked too limited. He needs to up his game to beat Wilder's power and athleticism. Alexander is still a solid allrounder though.

                      Exhibit B

Let look at how Deontay Wilder fights on the inside and what he does when he's close to his opponent:

He doesn't wait for the ref, he manhandles his opponent like a ****in' ragdoll.
