  • Super Bantamweight (122) is the Biggest Joke in Boxing

Why is boxing a niche sport? Look at the Ring rankings at 122. You have 8 ****ing undefeated fighters in the top 11. 8 undefeated fighters? And other than Rigondeaux, can you honestly call any of these guys elite?

This division sucks so bad, they had to blackball the champion so that 2 unproven contenders can unify paper titles only to after having to fight the champion after collecting these fake titles.

Donaire got his ass kicked by Rigo, and instead of trying to regain the title in honorable fashion, he takes advantage of boxing politics to back his way into aa vacant paper title. What type of competitor would even want to regain a title that way?

What a joke of a division. They are making a mockery of the sport., if that's what you want to call it.

How is Carl Frampton a paper champion? Rigondeaux never held the IBF title. Frampton won it from Kiko who was the reigning champion and had made a few defences of the title.

Quigg I get is clearly a paper titlist but Frampton is a legitimate world champion and they'd be fighting regardless of Rigondeaux's supposed "blackballing". That's the biggest money fight in the division, rightly or wrongly from a moral standpoint.

You call these guys unproven prospects - well isn't it better they prove who the best is between them before challenging Rigo?

I have no problem with them fighting but no way this should be a unification. It should be nothing more than an eliminator.

It should be a legitimate world title defence for Carl Frampton.

Frampton legitimately won a world title. What is the argument that he is a paper champion?

Rigo was never undisputed champion unless I'm mistaken. Yet he seems to get credit for every world title in the division. I hear this "paper champion" theory come up all the time in reference to him. As if he lays some kind of claim to all 4 belts when he only unified 2.

How can he unify when Frampton is fighting Quigg and Santa Cruz demanding $3 million? He's the champion because he's the man to beat the man. Everybody else is just a titleholder aka paper champion.

He is the lineal and unified champion. Clear number 1 in the division. That doesn't make everyone else a paper champion.

Does this apply to every division? Every titlist is a "paper champion" unless they are lineal? Or is it a special rule for Rigondeaux? I only ever hear it when it comes to him. He beat one guy - Donaire - for one other belt.

Paper champion implies that Frampton somehow stole the belt off Rigo by nefarious means when in reality, Rigo never had any claim to the IBF Title.

"How can he unify?" is a different question. The point is he never did.

Well the good news is Frampton or Quigg are about to take an L.If Rigo cant do anything at 122 he should do what Ward is doing and move up ; 126 is stacked and from what I heard recently Loma is calling him out. Guillermo started at 122 and a second division would do him some good.

Rigondeaux wouldn't move up without a rehydration clause and when that was agreed to, he still didn't take the fight.

I am a huge admirer of Rigo. I would probably rank him as the best fighter in the world if Mayweather was really retired. But people put him on some different level God-like pedestal.

It's laughable that in boxing there are '4 world champs' per division ****ing LOL. Rigo is the champ and they all know it, so do their promoters just ask Eddie Hearn...
