See, this is the problem with this forum. You guys are holding ridiculous standards to Golovkin, a non-American professional boxer trying to make a splash into the American market.

Kell Brook - professional fighter since 2004 (11 years)
Only has fought one legitimate opponent and holds one of the four major belts.

Keith Thurman - professional fighter since 2007 (8 years)
Will be fighting his first champion level opponent for his first real belt.

Terence Crawford - professional fighter since 2008 (7 years)
Has only fought 2 good opponents, holds one major belt.

Viktor Postol - professional fighter since 2007 (8 years)
Has only fought 1 good opponent, holds one major belt.

Deontay Wilder - professional fighter since 2008 (7 years)
Has only fought 1 decent opponent, holds one major belt

Jermell Charlo - professional fighter since 2007 (8 years)
Has only fought 1 decent opponent

Jermall Charlo - professional fighter sicne 2008 (7 years)
Has won one major belt, wouldn't really consider any of his opponents too good

Do I really need to continue? Golovkin has fought more top 10 opponents in his division than any of these guys included, by far. Weak division or not, stop acting like no other boxer is this slow in progress like GGG.

And Golovkin is the only one of those people who are being ranked in the top 3 P4P and lauded as the next superstar in boxing.

        Context.

I don't deduct from Danny Garcia because of his close-win over Lamont Peterson. I know people say he was getting his ass whooped towards the end of the fight, but he won that fight fair and square.

However, he did undeservedly win that fight vs Herrera. I don't give him credit for a robbery win over a B-level opponent. In fact, that fight's what stops him from being higher up on my P4P list, and in front of GGG. I put Garcia at #9-#10 at most because of that.

He's ahead of them in career, though. He's fought more top 10 opponents in his division and holds 2 belts. He's been pretty much totally dominant in all of his fights, no controversial wins, no controversial robberies, etc. I still don't put him top 3 P4P. I put him around #5-6 at most.

Also, what's wrong with him being touted as the next superstar in boxing? That's a good thing. I'd love for more boxers to become super popular. Realistically speaking we know he won't reach Pacquiao or Mayweather hype levels, he can still become a pretty popular fighter.

His team is obviously struggling to get the fights they want for him...and they've put their collective foot in their collective mouth a few times. The fact of the matter is that his team doesn't want to fight Ward at 168, there are no attractive fights at the middleweight limit, and they don't want a catchweight under 160. Perhaps he'll get the belt if/when the Cotto/Canelo winner vacates, but he'll still have the problem of getting a viable opponent in the ring.

I agree with you, Golovkin is about similar to Wilder's level.

Except that Wilder hasn't avoided 4 world-class opponents.

GGG should be taking the fights that he is avoiding, especially the lil guys.

Golovkin won silver in 2004 Olympics, the rest of them did not.

                  Big difference.

Problem is this..... that is a grand total of 4 world-class opponents that Golovkin COULD have fought, but CHOSE not to.

If something happens once, it is chance..... if something happens twice, it is a coincidence..... but if something happens 3 times, that is a pattern.

Golovkin needs to fight the guys that he is avoiding.

I think we can actually say the same about Miguel cotto or canelo if that's the case.....most UK people don't know who they are as well if your not a boxing fan , no one in the boxing world has the same name as a Mayweather or pacquaio...
