  • why dont pro boxers twist their feet much

their shoulders rotate fully, their hips rotate almost fully, but they leave their feet almost in the same position as their original stance, they don't grind the cigarette out all the way, why is that

I mean that's how karate men fight they punch directly from the hip and its an inferior way to generate power, and its not the way you are taught in a boxing beginners class

so why the hell do they rotate fully but not twist the foot fully//

its almost universal, nearly every pro boxer does this

    WHY

Ha the funny thing I noticed in muay thai they teach you not to rotate the foot all the way like in boxing because it exposes the legs main nerve to kicks but boxers don't even turn their foot all the way anyway

Pro boxer aren't noob, they generate more from the hip and they do turn their foot they just don't exaggerate it

I'm not really sure what you're asking, maybe post pictures?

Most of your power will come from your hamstrings and turning your lower back, not feet per se. The role of your feet in boxing is mobility so those punches are actually able to hit something.

Maybe in a bag punching competition some new stance would be popularized but these guys have to use them for moving.

got it so its for tactical reasons ie mobility, how come no 1 ever talks about this, its like something obvious that every pro does that absolutely no one talks about or knows about, I mean u don't really know that was just a guess wasn't it, you can rotate the feet fully and still be just as mobile and u need to fully rotate the feet to get the most out of your legs

b4 another guesser masquerading as an expert [like u] told me its because they didn't want to add power to an incoming shot, but that's simply not true because a lot of th time they use full power full torque of the shoulders

that putting a cigarette out move is an exaggerated fake boxer move, it doesnt help shit. It looks nice but adds nothing in facts it take away from you more then it helps.

As you get higher level your torque generating footwork gets less and less exaggerated. All you really need to add some weight transference is an imperceptible shift.

That's why in tai chi/Kung fu they teach the beginners large exaggerated movements but you see all the masters using very imperceptible movements, comparatively.

It's all about efficiency of energy and movement. You learn the idea, then you learn to do the same thing with less and less movement as you gain proficiency. In the end, an exaggerated foot twist does nothing but make it harder to maintain your root (from which your power is derived) as you transition into another attack.

The lead foot may twist slightly during a left hook but the main reason pro boxers keep their feet planted is so that they don't wind up on their asses. Punches from boxers are not like karate and muay thai, boxers will throw you off balance with their power. Footwork is everything, don't twist your feet.
