Comments Thread For: Zou Shiming Return Set For Shanghai on January 23

Coming off his title loss to Amnant Ruenroeng in March for the IBF flyweight title, two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming is set to return to the ring.

"Zou is coming back in Shanghai on January 23rd," said promoter Bob Arum, who has promoted the Chinese boxer that captured two Olympic gold medals for his country.

Arum then added - "We may do a show with IK Yang and Rex Tso over in Macao on December 19th."

Shouldn't it be "Obviously, things are not rosy like they used to be in Macao…"? As the economy in Macao totally tanked.

He can't retire, Bob invested too much into him.

Sucks for China that Shiming is in a division he just can't win against the top guys in. I can't even imagine the humiliation Shiming receives from Gonzalez.

Bob should try and cash out on a China vs Japan themed fight against Inoue.

"Shiming is getting revenge for the **** of Nanking"

That might be so, however: "Macau’s gaming industry is suffering and the country is the worst performing economy in the world.

"The rattle of the roulette wheels not quite as loud as it once was here in Asia’s very own Sin City. High rollers who once spent big on the VIP tables just aren’t filling seats the way they used to.

"Gaming revenues – think, money from slots machines or baccarat tables – are down 36% in 2015. In a place like Macau, as go the casinos, so goes the local economy. It shrank more than 26% last quarter alone, good enough to make it the worst performing economy in the world.” (http://wwlp.com/2015/10/28/where-in-...rming-economy/)

That's why Arum said "more of our activity will switch to the mainland."

A downturn in ******** due to economic and politicial issues probably has very little bearing on how a Zou Shimming fight will do there.

Who in mainland china can pay what Macau pays? Nobody

                  Macau will do just fine.
