Do you know how many times I've heard how a bad PPV has ruined the sport and turned fans off forever?

    Tyson-Holyfield II, for instance.

The bottom line is that you need marketable stars in competitive fights in order for it to work. Mayweather and Manny were anomalies for several reasons. Cotto-Margarito I is what we can expect going forward unless someone attains that kinda level.

I think we will see as many if not more PPV's over the next 5-10yrs. The UFC is actually selling their own PPVs that you can stream online now. Mayweather vs Berto also had an option to buy their PPV direct from CBS. That cuts out the cable company middlemen who take about half of the revenue according to most people in the industry. If promoters & networks can sell more & more PPV's over time themselves the amount of buys they need to gain a profit will obviously be much lower allowing for more fights to be sold via PPV.

If Mayweather fights again it will be on PPV, and Mannys last fight will be on PPV as well.

Other than Ward vs. Kovalev, I dont know which fight could be on PPV.

The winner of Canelo/Cotto will only have a PPV fight if they fight Golovkin.
PPV will go back to being what PPV was initially meant to be; venue to utilize when the fight is bigger than what could be provided by gate/sponsors/TV rights.

Until a fighter captures the audiences imagination (think Wilder knocking out Klitschko to unify all of the heavyweight belts, or Danny Garcia emerging as a cross between Tito Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya, minus the womanizing), PPV will retreat for some time, or should retreat.

No such thing as PPV king/queen nowadays. It always depends on a proper dance partner. Cotto, Canelo, Golovkin can't do it on their own.

Even semi-stars like Thurman, Garcia, Khan, Broner, etc. are not PPV materials even if they fight each other.

However, Canelo/Cotto/Golovkin could produce PPV explosion if they fight each other.
