Couldnt remember if it was Jimmy Owens or Johnny. J. Owens anyway. Didn't realise he was called The Matchstick Man. I remember learning about him because of Samart Payakaroon, in a weird roundabout way though. Fenech fought Samart for his title, who won it off Pintor who was in lots of great fights that I ended up checking out. Already knew him from his great fight with Gomez of course. Tragic fight when I watched it and found out about what happened.
James (hard rock) green...had a real war with John Mugabi
Johnny Owens who faced pintor in Mexico and lost his life for it was the matchstick man

The Matchstick Man aka The Merthyr Matchstick (after his hometown in Wales) aka The Bionic Bantam was the late Johnny Owen, who tragically tied when he was knocked out by Lupe Pintor in a brutal and savage fight. RIP, Johnny.

You probably meant Hatcher for Mad Dog, but to me it's Edgar "Mad Dog" Ross, who was a junior middleweight contender in the late 70s/early 80s, as he's from my hometown.
Went for gene (mad dog )hatcher who beat Johnny bumphus
And yes it's the tragic Johnny Owens....I have a short story about him he boxed a english guy called Wayne evans for the british title......wayne evans actually was an hod carrier for my dad who was a brickie....and he actually gave me my first pair of gloves when I was about 6 or 7......he lost to Owens because he had brittle hands and was forced to retire during his bout with Owens ....now that's trivia lol

2 ??? I remember a guy who I think was called Hard Rock who fought a bunch of guys in what was easily among my favourite eras of the 80's and 90's jr mids/middleweights. I'd have to check my old tapes though to remember his name.
3 Our very own Scully is an Ice Man?
        4 Boogaloo Watts
        5 Norris
        6 Quick Tillis
        7 Black Gold Schuler
        8 Ali
9 ??? The only 'matchstick' name I know is Owens, Johnny or Jimmy. He died fighting Pintor in a war. But his name was something like The Merther Matchstick or something weird like that.
        10 Dempsey
3 Milton mccrory was also the ice man

Marvin "The Law" Hart, just a club fighter who boxed on the side as a policeman, but a scrappy guy in his own right.

I watched Tucker vs Tyson, Douglass...if he had a better team he would have had a better career...fought his best competition too late in his career

Tucker had some good skills too...he gave Tyson one of his tougher title defenses and illustrated a great jab, movement and deft counters troubled MIKE

People underrate those 80s heavyweights because Tyson ran over most of them in the late 80s, and Holmes before him beat them but he wasnt beloved and came after Ali..." Marciano couldnt carry my jockstrap!".....hey, every fighter should feel like they are the best, kinda weird when fans and the media get upset about athletes who give up so much to compete at that level.

The era was actually pretty good and definitely better than the 30s-50s at the weight

I guess people think everyone is either a bum or an ATG...SMH

Larry Holmes was a brilliant heavyweight....very technical and his jab was something else.....do you know also was the thing what made Holmes so good...his ability to recover from taking huge punches....snipes , shavers and even the battering he took from tim Witherspoon I think in the 7th or 8th round was unreal.....I do not know how he got up from the shavers knockdown I really don't .....I have a lot of respect for Holmes as a champion but believe it or not I actually picked Michael spinks to beat him and won money at the bookies...I got 5-1 won £250 ....spinks for a very sporadic kind of jittery movement and combinations and then back out to beat Holmes...very unconventional performance but effective nn the less
