Comments Thread For: Eubank Sr: We Have Big Ambitions, They Are Golovkin

Chris Eubank Jr. blasted Tony Jeter away in less than four minutes on Saturday night.

The Brighton middleweight had the American down in the first round but as soon as the second had started, he was on the offensive and unleashed vicious and accurate shots that set up a short and explosive success.

Jeter had done well to recovering a first-round flattening but after just 29 seconds of the next, referee Howard Foster had little choice but to intervene as Eubank Jr set about him again.

It's good to have high ambitions. Can't say he's doing it for a payday because GGG nor his opponents get paid very well. People will ridicule him for wanting to fight GGG then turn around and claim everybody is ducking GGG. Lara is still calling GGG out. Said he'd fight him at 160 and in kazakhstan. But instead of fans demand the fight happens (Cotto & Canelo aint fighting him) they'll say he can't because he's with Haymon. Fans should demand HBO and K2 work with Haymon to get the fight made.

Lets wait and see how things shake out over the next 40 days. Lara/Zaveck and Alvarez/Cotto are at the end of November. The Alvarez/Cotto winner needs to reject a GGG fight. Then Lara needs to have some realistic monetary demands for a Golovkin fight.

Right now, Lara's being paid $1mill/fight for retired WW's - Delvin Rodriguez & Jan Zaveck. But HBO not going to pay him more than that to fight GGG. Before the PBC hedge-fund money came around, Lara was getting around $300k per fight and was paid a career-high $1mill for the Canelo ppv.

I want Lara/Golovkin in San Antonio this February, but I could see Lara killing the deal by demanding well over a million dollars for it.

I don't think $1 mil is an outrageous demand. GGG is selling out MSG, Stub Hub ect. Rios got $1.4 vs Alvarado for selling out a 6k stadium. Kirkland got $1.3 mil for Canelo selling out 35k stadium. All of these were HBO WCB cards not PPV and held in smaller stadiums except Canelo. I'm using the Canelo fight as an example to how much a boxer should expect fighting GGG in a big stadium. The promoter has to find a way to make this work, if they have to make less money so be it.

Maybe $1-1.5mill is fine for Lara? But they just had to do a ppv in order to pay Lemieux $1.5mill. No way they take Lara/Golovkin to ppv. I could see Lara asking for way more though since he's already getting paid $1mill for Rodriguez & Zaveck.

Canelo is a special case due to his status, GGG's not on his level so I wouldn't expect their opponents to get the same. Rios got a career high $1.25mill in the first Alvarado fight to Alvardo's 0.6mill. The second time around he got $0.85mill to Alvarado's $0.78mill. We're in the day and age of HBO having a responsible budget, something the PBC is the complete opposite of.

English knows the sport of boxing. If he says Christopher jnr is in a position to best golovkin I'm inclined to believe him.

We're in a day and age of HBO continually cutting their boxing budget in favor of programs like GOT. From a business standpoint it's understandable. From a fans standpoint it's horrible. The Stevenson/Kovalev fight has been nixed twice because of HBO. The first was when they passed on matching Showtime's offer to Stevenson and the second was refusing to help Duva win the purse bid. HBO is a part of Time Warner, they have more money & TV stations than PBC. It took PBC in order for HBO to start broadcasting fights on TruTV. Maybe if they start investing in boxing, instead of cutting their boxing budget every year, they'll see some returns.

Here's a great three part series on HBO's move away from boxing by Hauser
