If becoming contenders and champs is defined as "running into walls" then I am pretty ***ing damn certain every fighter dreams of "running into walls". And yes, even though it pains some to realize that ShoBox and PBC alumni will become contenders and champions, it will still happen.
This is not about hating on Haymon no matter how much you want to make it about that, it is about the fighters on ShoBox and PBC who are taking risks instead of fighting hapless 15-7 opposition and yes, Haymon fighters will become contenders and champs, even though that seems to cause you great pain thinking about it.
When I say champ, I don't mean a paid-for title shot paper titlist. I mean someone people dont groan calling a world champion.
Theyre taking risks because they know they will lose later anyways(to someone not very good) while still trying to keep a decent looking record. The others will take their risky fights when the truly important fights come up. Thats why when they do take them, they tend to shine or at least look good in them because even while fighting stiffs, they were always ready. The other guys bring these guys up even a little and they either struggle mightly or get outright exposed.

When a fan (not a fanboy) sits down to watch the fights and he watches a card where it contains nothing but house fighters going up against no hopers, he is not a happy fan!! When a fan sits down and watches even or near even matchups that turn out to be exciting and highly competitive where slight favorites or slight underdogs win, he is a happy fan! SIMPLE!!! Stop with the philosophical BS about "taking risks because they will lose later" or "paper champs", nor political agendas against Haymon, it has nothing to do with the core of what a true fight fan wants to see!
Theyre setup fights and they have their purpose, I dont really pay attention to them because there's no point. Theyre called showcases for a reason.
TR seems versed in creating good fighters so while it looks ugly and pointless I'm sure these type of fights serve their purpose.
Certain fighters will be in their even, entertaining fights later at world level, because they are capable of getting there and those bum fights were just a means to an end. Theres also always those overrated prospects who will bite off more than they can chew and now suddenly we have an even match. Others will have their memorable fights down on the undercards.
My point is that of course we'd all prefer better overall fights, but fighting other prospects or non gravy setups doesnt make you better, just makes for better fights some of the time. Keep in mind GBP/TR also dont have large stables, so theyll want to diminish their roster even less, even if the losses are from amongst their own. Not excusing it, just the way things seem to be.

BOTTOM LINE: GBP and TR are the latter and ShoBox and PBC are the former and that is not debatable.
A guy like Broner, for example, had he fought better record guys earlier in his career, hed just have more losses and would be the same limited fighter he is today. If anything, those extra losses would've gotten him fed instead.
He got pampered instead and is just not a good fighter and hangs just below the level he was never meant to ascend.
