As far as the general public goes: Are Ali, Tyson, FMJ, Pac...

What about Little G and the Klits?
Their 'fans' would have you know that they are of worldwide renown.

I think part of the problem in the general public not knowing guys like Mayweather is that, unless you bought ppvs in the last several years, you haven't seen him much. He's not on free tv, no endorsements. Pac has been on enough magazine covers and commercials that people have a sense that he's a big boxing star and know the face to go with the name. Even then, modern stars don't get crossover exposure like boxing stars of the past or even some modern mma fighters.Comment

we're talking about the general public. the general public doesn't know who G is. as i said before. the most popular boxers are ALI/TYSON. how old are you, Jedi? 12?Comment

I was going to say the same thing. Most people don't know who Mayweather is. I would bet that Sugar Ray Leonard is more well known.
I'd say Muhammed Ali and Mike Tyson are the most known to casuals. SRL isn't as well known but I'd put him second behind those two. Holyfield and Delahoya also have a bit of name recognition with the general public but they're not household names.
Foreman might be somewhat known but more due to his Foreman Hamburger Grill than his boxing fame.Comment

Tyson and Ali are household names. Pac/FMJ became familiar names to the non-boxing public only once they fought each other.Comment

Agreed.
Ali and Tyson are the only clear cut most famous boxers.
Nobody else comes close.
Sugar Ray Leonard is a a distant second.Comment

No, I'm 8.
Yes and I agree with you but the fanatics on here would swear different.
Floyd and Pac should be up there with Ali because the whole world stopped for their fight. TV stations worldwide clamoured to screen that clash.Comment

That may be true but they arent as well known.
People who dont follow sports at all will not know who these two are. But Ali and Tyson are a part of pop culture, everyone knows them.
My GF's brother didnt know who either Pac or May are, but he'd laugh if I asked if he knew who Ali or Tyson were. They are different level.Comment
