    Thoughts on PPV

Is it some thing should still be used?

Quite frankly, I think it should be held off for a while.

Over the last 10 years PPVs have been dominated by Floyd & Manny (with a few not involving them in between).

The only fights I can think of that would be PPV worthy are :

    Pacquiao/Khan
    Golovkin/Winner of Alvarez/Cotto

IMO, every thing else should be left to CBS, NBC, ESPN2, Spike, TruTV, Bounce, HBO & Showtime (and also the Spanish channels)

Boxing needs to go on a major revival if it wants to stay in the market. With Floyd retiring and the Floyd/Manny fight being the dud of the century the sport is going to have to make the best match-ups possible and who ever their golden egg(s) is/are need to stay healthy & active as **** in the public eye

No question boxing needs to regroup a lil after the Manny/Floyd era which is coming to an end. I tend to think Canelo will be the new PPV guy & not unlike Oscar helping create Manny & Floyd into becoming who they became & to a lesser extent making Tito, Vargas & Mosley PPV viable guys, the guys who fight Canelo will become PPV guys off of fights with him. Who they are is hard to predict. There are so many intangibles involved in all of this & in boxing things can change quick.

I'm 100% rooting for PPV's demise, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. In fact I was just making a post in another thread talking about the UFC & Showtime selling PPV's themselves & streaming events online instead of only being able to purchase PPV via your cable company (UFC has been doing this, Showtime did it for the first time with Mayweather vs Berto). This method will surely allow MORE fights to be PPV worthy because it would seemingly cut out the cable companies who take something like 50% of the revenue before the promoters, channels & fighters see a dime.

For example if one would assume that the fighters, promoters & TV channels involved with the latest GGG fight had $7.5M in revenue vs the $3.75M they probably will get to touch from PPV you can see how good things would get quick if a PPV can get more people buying that way.

As far as big fights off of PPV I think PBC has been doing a fair job of it. I think they are putting on a lot of solid fights & have a HBO-like schedule of one big fight between elite level guys a month that is working great for me. I've got fights waiting to be watched for the first time in a long ass time cuz of PBC (& they aren't even in Spanish like in the past).

Thing is PBC will still need a critical mass of talent to get where they need to get & to the point of killing PPV (assuming thats even possible at all). That'll take time. That'll take years. I suspect Haymon will poach as many top 2016 Olympians as he can that will insure that PBC will have "the next big names" as Olympians tend to have a better chance of becoming the next big names. But again this is some long game **** & in the meantime PPV will exist & still do well & make TV channels, promoters & fighters lotsa lotsa money.

Biggest mistake being made is trying to ride the Mayweather and Pacquiao wave. Trying to replace them and expecting their Casual Fans to buy the next Boxing Star PPV's. That is not how boxing works, the next Boxing Star will have to find his own way and build up his own Brand. You're not going to keep the Pacquiao and Mayweather Casuals because they're only fans of those fighters and not a fan of the Sport Of Boxing

I think Cotto vs Canelo should be the last PPV for awhile until some LEGIT new stars are built up and they actually have the interest of Casuals. UFC will kick Boxing Ass going into the next generation and them getting Jon Jones back will further wide the gap that they're building because unlike boxing, they know how to market and they have the younger demographic

I hate PPV. They are over priced and nearly ALWAYS suck. Haven't seen a watch worthy PPV in years...since Marquez iced Manny.
