  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo Not 160-Pounder, GGG in The Future

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya chimed in on the hot topic of the hour.

Next month, De La Hoya's star fighter - Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32KOs) - will challenge WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs).

The World Boxing Council has ordered the Cotto-Canelo winner to make a mandatory defense against IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs).

GGG ain't getting a fight with Canelo (or Cotto) above 155 pounds. It's just not going to happen. The sooner Gololkin realizes this the better.

Cotto's eventually going back to 154 and Canelo will keep draining himself to get to 155 until Golovkin moves up.

            Basically this ^^^

But my question is simple. If canelo isn't a middleweight then why in the flying **** is he fighting cotto for the WBC Middlewight belt, and the LINEAL MIddlewight title? If he just drops it like Pacquiao did after beating Margarito for the 154 strap, that would be fine, but if he's going to fight for the belt, keep it,and say that he's too small to fight golovkin for it,that's just some straight up b*tch ****. Forget a side and b side, that is a blatant duck.

Half a year ago Canelo didnt want to fight Cotto at 155, he wanted to have the fight at 156 because he thought he would have problems going down to 155, but he gave in to the demands of Cotto to make the fight, and now the same guys says he can only fight at 155? HAHA.

Here is the article where Canelo states 156 while Cotto asked for 155.
