Comments Thread For: Hopkins: It Will Take a Hell of a Guy To Beat Golovkin

During his career, Bernard Hopkins had a historic reign in the middleweight division and one that is unmatched as he still stands as the only fighter to unify the WBO/WBA/WBC/IBF world titles.

Last weekend at New York's Madison Square Garden, Hopkins played the role of promoter in a unification fight between Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux; a fight which saw Golovkin unify the WBA, IBO and IBF world middleweight titles with an eight round stoppage of Lemieux, who Hopkins promotes as a partner in Golden Boy Promotions.

34 have tried 34 have failed.

By spring 2017 GGG will have fought Lee Saunders Johnson and eubank Jr along with cotto canelo winner. That puts him at 39-0

10 wins away from Marciano's record.

Don't get ahead of yourself, that may not happen. What you're saying is the best case scenario, assuming all of those take the fights, and he beats them all.

Worst case scenario is that Canelo/Cotto duck, BJ beats Lee and then never fights Golovkin. He's on the record saying he has no desire to fight him in the near future. That would leave GGG with garbage like Johnson and Eubank.

That's not including 154 pounders moving up.

is little g that great or is the comp that bad?

Geale-Murray-Lemieux not exactly great fighters-Rosado-Steven-Macklin same boat not float. Who has little g beaten that says greatness just lost a fight. NO ONE. But who is out there to challenge little G?? Ward? Froch? Cotto? DeGale? Dirrell? Little g is on the cusp of greatness with zero significant wins.

Don't be surprised if Carl froch is a future fight.....I think me might be tempted out of retirement for a big Wembley stadium fight next year.....I know he was only gonna fight golovkin anyway and he has a big ego so that could be surprise fight down the line

34 low caliber fighters have tried (I refuse to call them "bums") and 34 fighters that were supposed to fail, failed!!! that sounds more realistic to the matter....
