Catch Weights: Should they be allowed?

We all know catch weights are used to gain or take away a weight advantage. Although I do not agree with them, I guess I am fine with a catch weight only 2 or so pounds away from the legitimate weight. Not 5+.

What do you guys think, should they be completely banned? Do they help make fights or discourage them?

When its between two fighters in separate weight classes,it is acceptable. When its two fighters in the same weight class, and fighter A is trying to bring down fighter B five lbs,its some b*tch ****.

I say specifically not for title fights. Even if a guy is moving up in weight.

If two guys from different weight-classes want to meet in the middle and are ok with the catch-weight, then i'm all for it.

I don't like it in title fights though. The whole Cotto/Canelo - GGG situation, and Cotto's reign as MW champ have been farcical in my opinion.

I think the bodies have to be strict, and stick to the weights if it's title mandatories, or it gives the 'A side' license to play around.

so what happens when fighter A wants to fight fighters B & C at a higher weight class, but specifically wants fighter D to be at a catchweight even though fighters B, C & D are all three from the same weight class?

I get the feeling that you're referring to a specific situation, but I can't put my finger on it...

                Never, ever, for title fights.

If it's two guys in different divisions, that's fine.

If it's two guys in different divisions in a title fight... I'm still not okay with that.

                  Different classes - yes.
                  Same class - no.

Fighting for a title should be at the limit of the title. No exceptions.

Yeah, I don't like them but fighters always look for advantages everywhere, if we ban catchweights you might start getting A sides demanding fighters move down a full weight class instead of meeting halfway.

Title fights don't even mean anything anymore beyond your first title fight or a unification.
