  • How is this guy a legend?

Never moved up, and didn't fight for a title until his 50th fight, didn't win a championship until his 54th fight.

How is this even possible to call a guy like this legendary? In his 45th fight, he fought a guy with 38 losses. In his 39th fight he fought a guy with 11 wins and 26 losses. In his 38th fight, he fought a guy with just 11 fights. In his 35th fight, he fought a guy with one single fight, a loss.

There wasn't a super middleweight division until after hagler retired. No one pretty much wanted to fight him, but he didn't have the opportunity to move up weight in that manner.

Also, that guy with those losses.... was a stay busy fight he fought a couple of months after that and like a month and change before that.

That he came from fighting for nothing, fought the system multiple times, always got the bad end of the stick and ended up as the greatest middleweight champion since Monzon. Beat Duran in a great fight, beat Hearns in a great great great fight, almost beat Leonard, undefeated Mugabi. His story in general and his persona.

How is he not a legend?

He was still in his early 20s during that time and still learning, not 33 with over 350 amateur/pro fights.

                    "1984–1989
The current super middleweight division traces its beginning to 1984, when Murray Sutherland defeated Ernie Singletary for the International Boxing Federation version of the title. The World Boxing Association created its version of the super middleweight title when reigning Lineal champion Chong Pal Park defeated Jesus Gallardo in 1987 (Park had been IBF champion before relinquishing the title to fight for the inaugural WBA version). The World Boxing Council crowned its first champion in 1988 when Sugar Ray Leonard defeated Donny Lalonde in a fight that was also for its version of the light heavyweight title."

                    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_middleweight

IBF wasn't even an officially recognized sanctioning body in 1984. As a matter of fact, that's the year that they, you could say, crowned their own champions. Then and only after that did the WBA and then the WBC recognized the super middleweight divisions.

Also on top of that Hagler was the Lineal & undisputed middleweight champion nearing the end of his career.

but ya former pac fans that are now GGGroupies wanna still compare the two
