Comments Thread For: A Roman Empire Upon Us: Pound for Pound Update

Ring Magazine, Sports Illustrated and ESPN, and this author’s fellows at TBRB had no problem crowning him upon the retirement of Floyd Mayweather. Why the wait here?

That can be answered with another question: with a fight looming against the most dangerous puncher he’d faced yet, what was the hurry? The results are in. Roman Gonzalez last Saturday faced down a determined Brian Viloria. The best the former Olympian and two-division titlist could do with an edge in speed and his own considerable knockout power was keep it about even for four rounds.

Not so sure I agree. How can Canelo be in the top ten and Cotto not ? Even though I hate his catch weight bull ****. Other than that looks pretty solid although Klitty should be a little higher with his long and dominant reign.

He has the right 6 fighters atop the list IMO. The order of those 6 fighters can be endlessly debated. I strongly disagree with Golovkin being above Pac.

It's a huge cluster following those 6. You could go dozens of directions at those spots.

Any list with Andre Ward on it is worthless from the get go. He does not belong on the list until he beats a couple of top 5 ranked contenders either at SMW or LHW.

No other sport will rank an athlete who has done nothing at all for almost 3 years. This is one of the things that makes boxing such a frowned upon fringe sport. It is a joke really.

And if you fight at a catchweight at your own insistence, you do not deserve to be ranked on a POUND FOR POUND LIST. That is totally bogus.

I just do not think GGG has the resume of anyone in the top 7 and I do not think he should be ranked above Manny or Wlad.
