Early stoppages here early stoppages there....EARLY STOPPAGES EVERYWHERE!!!

So everyone is saying both GGG and Chocolatito bouts were stopped early.......

do you want to see this? or do you want boxers to be given the chance to keep going? Should fighters be allowed to go out on their shield? should the corner be given the responsibility of when to say when? or did you like the stoppages as they took place??

    wachugot??

The referee sees it from angles we don't. If he sees that a guy is in real trouble, sometimes you can't argue. Both guys seem to be getting beat up bad and both took hard body shots which I think started both stoppages if I remember both fights correctly.

However, that was a PPV event and people asking for more brutality.. I can't fault them but I'm not the one taking punches to the face either.

That said, I thought both could of gone on longer but it would of been a waste of time, both guys look spent by the time of each stoppage and GGG/Gonzalez had a lot in the tank.

Could they have gone on longer? Sure. But it looked to me like both guys were done, and I'd rather see a ref step in and prolong a fighter's career, and possibly life post-fighting, rather than let someone take a beating that'll catch up to them later on.

I also would have gave each fighter a couple of rounds more.

Viloria was gonna get stopped regardless maybe a bit premature but the Lemieux one I think his corner were questioning about even putting him out for the 8th round!
Take that in with the fact Lemieux nose was badly busted up and GGG was landing jab after jab on that this is unlike when Fonfara fought Cleverly, doesn't give Lemieux much chance to recover it just puts him through a hellish night referee did a good job with GGG and Lemieux.

NYS Athletic Commission is still under fire for Magomed. They want to prevent things like that happening again, you can't blame them. Lawsuits to the government hurt the city, the citizens, lawsuits are funded by the taxpayers of NY. I'm all for early stoppages in showcase/mismatch fights. If it's a more even fight, more competitive like something like GGG vs Ward in NY, or GGG vs DeGale, or Gonzalez vs Estrada II, obviously you don't want to stop a fight prematurely in a fight like that. But these low caliber fights where the opponent was put there as a showcase, stop the fight if they are too behind. Good call on both. They were early yeah, but in the heat of the moment, neither fighter complained. Lemiuex now opened his mouth after the fact, but he looked shook when the fight was stopped "Like thank god, my showcase role is over, that was scary".

Instead of stopping them, I'd prefer a standing 8 count, give them one more changes, if nothing, then stop it.

Both stoppages were fair. Viloria really was getting beat up. I made a bet on him because of the odds, but I was even hoping they stopped it before he got seriously damaged. Lemiux could have gone a round or two longer but it was better to get stopped by the ref than get stopped by getting ko'd

It's still a sport not Gladiators.

I'll take 100 early stoppages over another Magomed or Colon situation anyday. If a guy can't be competitive and fight back there is no reason to fight on.
