If Gennady Golovkin intends to make his ultimate mark as one of the great Middleweights, and at 33 there isn’t much time to do otherwise, unification of the class is a must. His field isn’t particularly deep or strong. Neither was the field faced by Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins overcame the objection by eliminating all pretenders.

Golovkin easily, and brutally, lifted the IBF belt from David Lemieux. He already has the WBA strap. If the winner of Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez next month elects to avoid him, he may get the WBC belt without landing another punch. [Click Here To Read More]

To be honest I agree with the B. Yeah, statistically it's not even close. But there were a couple of times when Lemieux got him good. One time, I believe in 2nd Rd, I saw GGG close his eyes during a long flinch because he saw a punch coming. That was one of the first signs of weakness I've seen from him recently.

He didn't get wobbled though, which was great to see from his chin.

Lemieux was a power puncher that was completely rendered ineffective. That is worth at the very least an A, if not an A+.

The first time David started seriously swinging, Golovkin flinched and almost went into the "don't hurt me" pose in the corner.. Not sure how to explain better. If you can find the recording of the 2nd round (maybe 3rd), watch it. You'll know what I mean.

he lacks an explosive step back, its why he was so cautious against Stevens and Lemieux.....his power was enough to keep them so honest they failed to exploit those flinching moments.....and flinching while leaving your head high is always bad....this is why combination punchers(like Ouma did) will trouble Golovkin and why he seems to respect canelo a lot.....he probably got him to flinch and nailed him with good shots after....

In a way Canelo/Cotto and GGG are made for each other's style.....Canelo can get him to reset and overwhelm his defense with combinations.....Golvkin can walk him down and wear him down, and we already know canelo has been fighting small guys and has stamina probems, so he's never seen the combination of power and size that Golovkin has......it all depends on who can take the beSt shot and keep doing what he needs to do....Cotto has a significant foot-hand coordination advantage and looks like he can punch at this weight with roach.....he can also exploit that to bust up golovkin, but he is at a bigger disadvantage because of stamina and size too.....

I just hope they don't avoid the fight, because it will be great, unlike this one......the only shot Lemieux had was to go out guns blazing, and he just didn't have the guts to risk getting laid out in a fire fight.
