While these two barely touched on the same divisions, I think it would be interesting if they had fought with De La Hoya as a young up and comer and Barrera as the experienced super featherweight. I think it would have been a close match-up.

De la hoya was a monster.. He would land the left hook on barrera and crush him, just like he did genaro and leija
Combination of size, handspeed, power and skill would be too much for the great barrera -

De La Hoya was too big, 5'10", very powerful, and there are Super Middleweights and Light Heavyweights that don't have DLH's reach. DLH has longer arms than Ward, Kovalev, same reach as Beterbiev, etc. DLH can almost match long armed guys like DeGale and Andre Dirrell. When you have the power, chin and height of DLH, having such long reach does matter. It would have been a complete slaughter and people would have complained like they did with the JCC fight.
He was a wrecking ball for those SFW's and LW's. It would have been a brutal beating. MAB as skilled as he was, you can't overcome such a height and size disadvantage unless he was fighting a C fighter.Comment
